The fact that you do feel utter contempt would indicate that is more likely to be pride. For what it's worth (which is probably zero) and if it is all true I think it's been dealt with a heavy handed and unnecessary way
I read somewhere many years ago that there are two human emotions you have little or no defence against. One is contempt and the other pity. Both are forms of judgement with a far greater meaning than the simple suspension of a licence. If there was ever a battle for the moral high ground the council through their reprehensible conduct, lost. They proved themselves to be worthy of contempt, I merely obliged. My dignity remains intact.
Pride, doesn't even come into it, but you will believe whatever makes you feel comfortable.
