Millionaire cabbie to buy new car

A taxi driver who won £1 million in a lottery raffle plans to spend some of his windfall on a new seven-seater car.

Self-employed Cardiff cabbie Adam Derbi, 35, was announced as the latest winner of the EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle.

The father of five and his wife, Natalia, will celebrate by treating close family members to a slap-up meal at their favourite restaurant.

They also hope to buy a house and move from their rented terraced home in Rumney as well as splashing out on a new family car big enough to carry them all.

Mr Derbi, who was brought up in the Cardiff suburb of Ely, said: “A £1 million win is a colossal amount of money, but I have a big family and I am determined to be as practical and sensible as I can.

“Yes, we’ll look for a house and car that are right for me, Natalia and our five children, but then it’s a case of allowing the money to give us some security and our children a decent start in life.

“I’ll be making arrangements so they have good deposits for a house or car when they’re old enough.”

The EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle guarantees to create a millionaire in the UK in every EuroMillions draw. Players are given a raffle number for every ticket they buy – with the £1 million prize guaranteed for the player who matches three letters and six numbers halfway down their ticket.

Cardiff City FC fan Mr Derbi, 35, learned about his win when logging on to the National Lottery website last Friday when he went to take part in that day’s EuroMillions draw.

He said: “I’d been emailed a notification that I’d won £5.10 by getting the two numbers in the EuroMillions main draw, but I couldn’t see that on my computer screen. When I scrolled down I saw that I’d won the £1 million as well. I started shaking and it all seemed a bit surreal.”

Sounds like a sensible chap, good luck to him and his family. I'm sure the kids will be drawing up a wishlist as I type :D
