Surrey and Sussex police appeal over taxi driver attack
A taxi driver was robbed and attacked, suffering a suspected broken nose, when he dropped off six passengers who then attacked him. The 27-year-old victim collected the group in Crawley, West Sussex, and dropped them off in Horley, Surrey.
He opened a door to let some of them out but was grabbed from behind, pushed to the ground, punched and kicked. Surrey Police are working to obtain CCTV footage from the town and any information from Crawley nightclubs.
The group stole the man's takings, his sat-nav, and expensive taxi radio equipment. The taxi driver was taken to the East Surrey Hospital in Redhill and is still off work.
Det Con Jenny Packham said: "The suspects had been collected outside Crawley railway station and we are working on the theory they had been to a nightclub in the area beforehand."
She said it was thought the suspects lived in the Horley area because they ran away towards nearby residential roads after the attack in the early hours of Saturday.
She added that anyone with information about the attack could help the driver's "peace of mind". The attack happened between 0315 and 0345 BST in Rosemary Lane.
