Barry Ferguson's chauffeur booted from taxi association over allegations of missing cash
A CABBIE who acts as Barry Ferguson's chauffeur has been booted off a taxi association amid claims of missing cash. James Clements, 50, was shown the door at a stormy meeting when around 80 members of Hamilton Taxi Owners' Association were told that £1490 is unaccounted for. Clements, who was treasurer, was not at the meeting.
He is the regular driver for the former Rangers and Scotland skipper whenever Ferguson, now a Blackpool midfielder, returns to Lanarkshire on business. It is claimed that Clements authorised a £1000 payment into a personal bank account.
This is alleged to have followed payments of smaller sums dating back to January. Clements is said to have told colleagues that the payments were to cover expenses he incurred last year.
One cabbie, who did not wish to be named, said: "There were also two other committee members who knew of these payments for months but chose to tell no one about it and chose to do nothing. "It is a mess and taxi drivers are absolutely fuming."
Following Tuesday's extraordinary general meeting, Clements denied any wrongdoing. At his home in Viewpark, Uddingston, Lanarkshire, he said: "I'm glad to be out of it. For the moment, the idiots have won. "I would not be surprised if there is court action over some of the nonsense that is taking place."
A Hamilton TOA spokeswoman said: "This is an internal matter and it is being dealt with."
