Is there anybody out there who has recently purchased the new TX4 Style that Mann and Overton are pushing at the moment? If so, could you give me an idea of what your fuel consumption is like. Either pence per mile or what it would cost you on average to fill up after 100 miles. The reason I am asking is that mine seems to be guzzling the fuel. I am a fairly steady driver, no racing away from lights or anything like that. For example, I did 214 miles today which comprised a fairly even split of urban driving and X-urban. To fuel up it cost me £62 (29p/mile). My previous cab, TX1, would have probably cost approx £50. Mann and Overton are trying to tell me that the cab needs time to bed in and then the fuel consumption will improve. That's true to a point but even taking that into account, fueling up should not be coming in at that kind of cost. I would appreciate any feedback and/or figures. Thanks.

yes, Ive been looking around at the TX2 or 4, or the alternatives put out by Mercedes, Peugot, etc., and none of them are jumping to let me know mpg figures, which leads me to think they are horific ! Am i right?

thanks for replies but, Mauvedipstick, your answer ties in with the stuff i get from the manufacturers. Your pence per mile figure is not relevant as fuel prices differ around the country, your meter will be diferent to mine, and so on. What I need to know is the miles per gallon figures. Why is it so hard to get those figures? What is everyone hiding from me? The problem I have is that my council is refusing to give out hackney licences to new drivers (im not a new driver but seeking my own cab rather than a company cab...........its the same thing to the council) unless they buy a purpose built wheelchair accesible side loading taxi.................otherwise I will have to be a private hire driver and not use the rank etc.. Then of course the age limit is five years old for cars newly registered as taxis and the price of purpose built cabs is horrendous before ten years old. Actually, I think Im stuffed and will have to be private hire.

Can't help you with the TX4, but my Peugeot Teepee (E7) does 6.53 miles per litre in winter (drop due to keeping the engine running on the Rank. to stop my tits freezing off) to 6.84 miles per litre in summer.

If you want that in miles per gallon, you'll have to do the maths yourself.

Multiply by 4.54
29.6 in winter and 31.05 in summer.

27.6 mpg at .23 pence per mile and 26.48 mpg at .24pence per litre based on the price of diesel being £1.40 per litre.

Of course there are a number of factors that can adversly affect mpg. simple things like not turning the engine off whilst waiting on the rank. Even having a full tank of fuel will reduce your mpg because you are carrying all the extra weight of that fuel around with you. Unless you are going on a long journey consider if you need to have the tank full.

Not a massive demand for air-con in your manor then. :D
