Give me a clue!!

What would YOU consider a fair price and would be happy with if in your manor you had a punter for a;

1. 25 mile fare
2. 50 mile fare
3. 100 mile fare
4. 150 mile fare
5. 200 mile fare
6. 300 mile fare
7. 400 mile fare

This is a serious question. Big debate in our manor about this at the moment.

I take the mileage and times it by 3, and that's my rough price.

Unless its 3am and they're heading out to rural Herts, then a discount may be forthcoming.

Thirty bob a mile here

All the way through the long distance fare chart?

BTW, you must have a lot of Roberts in your area.

Are you serious?

Does that include the shorter distance jobs of 25 to 75 miles?

7. 400 mile fare.................£800

Of course all of the above distances would take me outside of my prescribed distance......so I can change more

The reason for this thread is that there is a school of though here that the further the punter wants to go the lower the mileage charge should be to encourage these hirings.

A kind of downward price graduation, perhaps starting at clock and a quarter [clock plus 25% is our standard long distance negotiable rate] reducing to, let's say, clock minus a quarter for the really longer jobs, perhaps over 100 or 150 miles.

If I did a job for £100 on a quiet day.....I'd be happy and go home, even if I did give a little discount.

And there's the problem.

I would expect to earn more than that on an average day and my happy and contented threshold would be nearer £140 a day takings, plus weekend nights.

The fact that very few drivers in Brum earn that much in a day and most certainly never consistantly day in day out, is just a sign of the times.

It's horses for courses, from area to area.

I suspect for the lower distances it would average around £1.80-£2.00 a mile.

For the longer distances maybe £30/£40 an hour.

Its all variables, I'd rather go to Annan....like I did on Saturday night for £45 (the fare should be almost £60) and do the job in 1 hour.....than do 2 hours of streetwork for the same result....especially considering I was doing mainly RTFC work during the evening.
