My views are known.

However, if a council has evidence of a knowledge test being needed......then why legislate against a councils best judgement?

Someone spoke to me yesterday making a very good point, and that's what will a council do when they have numerous complaints over the issue of PH drivers not knowing where they are going to.

If the Law Commission have their way councils will be powerless to do anything. Is this progress? :?

You would have a good Point. except that. Punters complaine to the private hire companies and not the council regarding private hire drivers overcharging.... the councils never know of the complaints....... what makes me laugh is the fact they are claiming to make it cheaper for the passenger when in fact been taken from A to B by a driver that does not know where he's going, only makes it more expensive....ps.. I am obviously referring to overcharging due to the fact that they do not known where they go..

How interesting in an age when you need a degree to work in McDs.

Their is some Irony of one of the most closed shop, protected professions there is (Law) telling others they need none.

The LC clearly haven't been in any private hire vehicles, in areas where standards are lacking. I can't think of any other reason they would consider it ok for a driver to have to check where things are, either with a passenger or an operator, before they move in any direction. I also can't believe this will bring prices down. If it takes longer for a driver to do a job eventually they'll end up over charging the customer, if for no other reason than 'needs must'
