Wasn't VAT just 8% in those days grandad? 8)

Not to mention the plethora of stealth taxes introduced to cover the reduced take from income tax?

Why not,rail,utilities back in public ownership and tax the top earners more.The legacy left by her in the ground isnt working. :roll:

The VAT on petrol was 25% in 1974-76 thanks to the very fine labour government.

After David Cameron tried to blame Labour for "Green Levies" it was revealed that the majority of Green Levies on domestic fuel were actually added by David Cameron's own government.

Perhaps David Cameron's next strategy will be to start blaming Labour for the fact that VAT is charged on domestic fuel and electricity.

No, I am saying that the Labour Government increased VAT on petrol from 12.5% to 25% in 1974.

No, I am saying that the Labour Government increased VAT on petrol from 12.5% to 25% in 1974.
