A Stoke-on-Trent cabbie has been hit with six points and more than £800 in fines - after being caught plying for trade in Stafford.
Yasid Hussain, of Alberta Street, Longton, was caught on CCTV picking up fares, which were not pre-booked around Stafford town centre earlier this year.
The 26-year-old private hire driver, whose licence with Stoke-on-Trent City Council requires fares to be pre-booked, was ordered to pay fines and costs of £846 by magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre last week after admitting illegally plying for hire and driving with no insurance.
Frank Finlay, Stafford Borough Council Cabinet member for Environment and Health, warned taxi drivers seeking fares illegally risked losing their private hire licence.
He said: “We are determined to clamp down on drivers who stick two fingers up at the law by picking up customers when they are not entitled to.
“One of our top priorities is the health and wellbeing of our community.is it really; so nothing to do with protecting the revenue from license fees paid by locals"We want to protect the public as they are at risk because these vehicles will not be insured if they are picking up passengers in this way.”
Stafford Borough Council have sent a report of the case to Stoke-on-Trent City Council
