Came across this via TaxiPoint, and it's quite interesting reading, and not that long (ignoring the flimflam), so worth reading it in whole from the original source.

And, on the other hand, nothing really that regulars on here wouldn't know already, despite one or two wee nuggets. And interesting how they seem to broadening the response to a wider PR-style pitch rather than simply answering the specific questions.

Haven't read it in detail yet, but I certainly don't understand the response to Q5 - surely that's just about a specific part of England, rather than the whole lot? :?

I would appeal to the Information Commissioner over the questions they didn't answer.

FFS they have 113 staff so workload shouldn't be an issue, and even if it was the number of electric cars isn't the most taxing of questions. [-(

Clearly none of the 113 have got enough brains to actually read a question and answer it properly. #-o

Had to laugh at this - I mean, all that state-of-the-art IT and processing stuff they keep bragging about, yet they don't even have a simple database which records whether the vehicle is EV, Euro 6, or whatever :-o

And yet elsewhere in the document they're bumping on about saving the environment, and all the usual blather

Wolverhampton City Council wrote:
The information appertaining to your request is not easily accessible as we do not
record the fuel type of any of the vehicles and as such this information is not held
as a distinct set able to be retrieved or reported on. To provide you with the
information requested would require a manual trawl of 29,000 records individually
to check the V5 certificate and as such we believe that the aggregated time it
would take to collate the information would be in excess of 18 hours (equivalent to
a notional cost of £450).

Which as usual suggests they're more bothered about building an empire, and letting bottom-of-the-barrel vehicles through and a source of cheap labour for Uber et al, rather than the environment or safety etc :-|

I mean, if they had a simple database field recording the fuel class (which you'd think would be a critical piece of information, particulary these days), then it should be as easy to provide a number for EVs than it would be to find out the total number of vehicles via a couple of clicks here:

Wolverhampton like to have their cake and eat it. As a rule they get a lot of cake and have a full belly. It's naive to think they would allow an FOI request to come between them and their cake !

Earlier, Wolverhampton City Council wrote:
Our early adoption of digital technology has allowed us to offer a simple and efficient online application procedure...

But they can't even tell if vehicles are EVs, hybrids, Euro5 or Euro6 without wading through 30,000 V5Cs? :-o

I'd put money on the systems used by many other councils being able to provide such figures in a couple of seconds

And they'll let cars be used up to 12-years-old - thus including the Euro5 diesels banned in many towns and cities - yet have the brass neck to say:

Wolverhampton City Council wrote:
Due to [the right to roam], the council has previously lobbied for a national
emissions policy, as taxis are inherently mobile and cross authorities’ borders.

Cheek of them :x

I mean, it should be just like using the search function on here to find the amount of times that EVs is mentioned on here, and the answer is 152 =D>

search.php?keywords=evs&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

Joking aside, it should be as easy as that for Wolves to find the figure for EVs, hybrids, Euro5/6 etc, assuming they had their database set up to record such basic information

It's actually quite simple for most of the councils out there that don't employ 113 numpties.

They just have a tick box option on the application form.

Actually, I'm not sure if our council would know offhand how many EVs etc that there are locally. It's not something that's on the application form (unlike vehicle age, WAV status and 'CC rating'). So unless they input other V5C stuff into their records then they'd be in no better a position than Wolverhampton to disclose the information.

Thinking about it, not sure either how the application form would deal with an EV, because I think it just asks for 'CC rating'.

Come to think about it, maybe there aren't any EVs at all in Fife, so to that extent the application form wouldn't matter if all it asks for is 'CC rating'

Think ours has Diesel, Petrol, EV or Hybrid.

for the last 10 or so years we had a box to tick if the vehicle was electric or hybrid

And yet the so-called 'state of the art' system that Wolverhampton uses doesn't. #-o

Six years ago, The Times, regarding Wolverhampton City Council, wrote:
The authority’s licensing committee chairman, Alan Bolshaw, said its approach complied with relevant legislation and, by embracing digitalisation, was far more advanced that the “very traditional and rigid licensing practices” used by other local authorities.
