Usual blather about working with 'partners', slightly surprisingly here not including DVSA officers, but including the Home Office immigration team and NHS 'colleagues' (who are presumably partners as well, but that word had already been used in the sentence ).

But it seems that the latter were involved in assessing accessibility issues

And presumably the mention of Wolverhampton police here has little meaning in terms of licensing significance - maybe that part of the force covers Walsall as well.

Anyway, nothing much to see here in the grand scheme, except an unusual suspension for the non-display of a tariff card...

Taxi suspensions and joint enforcement operations mark National Licensing Week in Walsall

Six licensed vehicles were suspended from service and dozens of inspections carried out as Walsall Council marked National Licensing Week (June 9 to June 13).

Working alongside partners including West Midlands Police, the Home Office Immigration Team, NHS colleagues and Community Protection officers, licensing teams carried out checks on licensed vehicles, visited licensed premises and undertook targeted enforcement operations throughout the week.

One of the largest operations in the week saw Licensing, Community Protection, Wolverhampton Police and Walsall Council’s MOT testing team inspect 12 licensed vehicles (3 Hackney Carriage and 9 Private Hire vehicles) during an evening enforcement exercise. Five vehicles were suspended after concerns were identified including expired MOT and vehicle parts which were unsafe due to damage.

Licensing and Community Protection officers also carried out proactive checks on Hackney Carriage vehicles operating in Walsall town centre, resulting in one suspension following no tariff card displayed in vehicle.

A further operation at Walsall Manor Hospital focused on services provided to wheelchair users and passengers travelling with assistance dogs. Twenty-four licensed vehicles were inspected, with a number of issues rectified including identification badges not on show.

In preparation for increased activity linked to the FIFA World Cup period, Licensing and Community Protection officers visited six premises that had submitted Temporary Event Notices. The visits provided an opportunity to assess preparations, offer advice and ensure operators understood their responsibilities ahead of anticipated busy trading periods.

I mean, a tariff card contains *clear* information?

Where to start with that?

Actually, maybe little point in addressing that point in general terms, because anyone actually regularly reading this forum will be well aware of my arguments in that regard

It's an easy win for any licensing officer.

Well, if 12 vehicles were one of the largest, one hates to think how many vehicles were checked elsewhere.

12 vehicles being checked is nothing; you could do double that on a taxi rank in less than an hour.

We can all agree tariff cards are there for a reason, but suspending the vehicles for that is a massive overkill.

I suspect, I hope, they checked the meter, and that would have been found ok, else we would have been told.

And I've no doubt the taxi licensing budget would have been funding that overtime as well.
