A bookable bus service is set to travel our streets. Transport operator Nexus will launch the LinkUp service, involving buses you can book to take you from your door to your destination.

Travellers all over Tyne & Wear will be able to reserve the service like a taxi. And a journey with LinkUp, which is to replace the U-Call service, will cost no more than a bus fare. Passengers will be able to book as little as 45 minutes before travel, with booking between 7am and 8pm and the service running until midnight.

Bernard Garner, acting director general of Nexus, said: "For the first time passengers across Tyne & Wear will be able to contact our call centre to ask for a bus from close to their front door to wherever they want to go in the local community, when they want to go."
