And what defence would they have in court if I asked for 100 plates and was refused? :?

OH and they are going to be worried about you Sussex ................... I mean Eastbourne Council really $hit themselves when you walk in.

Funny that, maybe it is true, we also had a taxi driver, now retired, the Council did really $hit themselves when he walked through the door, many a time, he wasn't frightened of the Council and took them to court many a time, I still pop into his home now again, for a natter, or for advise on issues, great to have a bloke who knows his stuff and taxi law

IF, and it is a big IF, Gateshead decide to reregulate a lot will hopefully be written into policies to stop the sale of plates currently attatched to the WAV's.

So how would this work?

And why try to stop WAV plate transfers and not saloons?

By the way, I pointed out the shortcomings of non-transferability to you almost exactly four years ago, yet you still advocate it despite never addressing the issues raised.

And Gateshead must have been acting illegally if they made your plate non-transferable?

And you were still calling me 'mate' in those days

Dusty mate, I got my plate for nowt. Anyone can get one if they present a WAV. My plate is non-transferable so If I sell the vehicle the plate must get handed back into the council even if the person who bought it is going to work in Gateshead.

Come on mate, we've allready done this.

I know we have Mick. Before you went on holiday you started advocating stricter conditions on drivers and vehicles to limit numbers - now your back to the quotas.

Non-transferability - we've been here before as well - 20 years down the line and lots of the plateholders will be sitting on their a$£e while the journeymen can't get their own plates.

Or they'll be hiring out plates.

It may look alright in the short term but in the long term it's probably worse than allowing transfers!

Dusty

Good God !!!! I have just returned home from a 3 month cruise but before I left I ordered a brand new WAV to be delivered on 01-10-06 having paid cash in advance, the reason being that I have spent 14 years as a Gateshead Private Hire Driver and due to the significant unmet demand I thought I could provide a better and more profitabale service as a H/C operator and get a piece of the action. With this new "unlawful" "legislation" it means now that I am up the creek without a paddle and £30.000 worse off !! thanks to GMBC (GATESHEAD METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL). Still, with a Barrister and two solicitors in my family I can't wait to take delivery of the aforementioned vehicle .

3 month cruise ....................... it must have been your twin brother I was talking to a few weeks ago then Volvoman.

I wish you would call in for a cuppa .................. I'd love to see the WAV that Volvo makes.

Oh and I'll try and lend you some wood to make yourself a paddle.

   My posting was actually a hypothesis largely fuelled by the imbibing of Famous Grouse in great quantity!!!! I'm sure you catch the drift though. Still, all is not lost. A letter i received from Licensing says that, "In the meantime, anyone wishing to submit an application for a Hackney Carriage vehicle licence may apply to go onto a waiting list held by the Licensing Section, or alternatively apply to have the vehicle licensed as a private hire vehicle in the interim period." 8) 8) 8)

But what will be the "new" criteria for vehicles. :? :? :?

Anyway, I was always aware of your facination with wildlife ........... however I understood you to be an expert in the field of beavers rather than a "bird" man. I assume though that sitting with that kind of bird in your hand opens up many more sights when conducting your first love ............ seeking the beaver.
