Had a couple of days in Amsterdam with the boss last week, great trip, by ferry from Hull to Rotterdam, recommended. Rickshaws all over the old town though, even have "Taxi" on the "roof!" One guy pulled up alongside us and asked "taxee boss?" I almost wet myself. "Are you GBC?" I asked him. When he said no, I said no thanks. We were warned off using Taxi's (recently deregulated) because the drivers can charge what they like. (legally) If you don't negotiate the rate when you get in, you will be ripped off. One rate for locals, one for American tourists, and brits too. There's an area called "The Red Light District" where ladies sit in shop windows in their underwear. what the hell is that all about? Saw all the Old Masters, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, and not forgetting Heineken!
The Taxi's don't stop for flagdowns, they rip off tourists, and the fare tariff is incomprehensible. It was just like home!
