At this time of year you get all and sundry coming up to you on the rank with such items a large TV's, rolls of carpets etc etc, even had one person turned up with a washing machine on a flat bed trolley

then you get the evicted coming up to the rank with 10 full bin liners to move house

we are not removal men, if it was to go in the boot it would be 10p on the meter, the store would charge 10 quid to deliver

the private hire company in Bath i sub contract too charge £10 on top of the meter charge for jobs classed as removals.
the punter is informed of the charge when they book and it is on their tarriff card
at certain times of year the p/h estate cars make a fortune from the students,but any hackneys on the system cant charge the extra

Another thing I wont do is f***ing take away deliveries.

While sat on a cab rank I was asked to deliver two large unopened boxes of beer glasses to a nightclub. The gentleman said, "can you deliver these boxes to this particular night club and you will be paid at the other end".

I told him he would have to travel with the boxes and that he would have to pay me on reaching the destination.

My reasons for refusing,

(A). If I had taken the boxes I had no way of knowing if the contents were what he said they were. I also had no way of knowing if all the glasses were intact or perhaps some broken? By taking the boxes I put myself in a position where I also owed the Gentleman a duty of care to deliver the boxes intact and to the right person. If the person at the other end could not be found then I may have been left holding the baby?

(B). I had no way of knowing that I would get paid on delivery, or that there might be unaccountable problems?

(C). By telling the gentlemen he had to accompany the boxes and that I would not take him without the means to pay for the fare, places all the emphasis on the passenger. If you're lucky you might even get a wait and return?

If the boxes were going a million miles I might have considered the fare but I certainly wouldn't have gone without first getting the fare upfront and checking the contents of the boxes.

I Never do a job like this unless it's paid up front, and usually refuse them anyway. (im not getting done with a pile of drugs in my car)

I can get a washing machine in the back no prob, had one 2 weeks ago, and the 4 punters, just charged them £20 extra, as they said Comet would charge £40 for the home delivery, they where more than happy to pay on top of the £30 fare, that's where the KIA Caren's comes in handy.
I even advertise the fact that i can take big loads and have let Comet and Curry's know so get regular calls.
I can even get a full size ride on disabled buggy in the back, but do not charge extra for this service all I require is an able bodied person to help lift it in and out and it only takes 2 Min's to put in and out.

Good on yeah Skippy.

But please, just for me, watch your back.

No removals, bikes, food (shopping accepted) or washing machines in the GBC Cab.

The occasional inebriated Reiver, but generaly just people and some luggage.

AS soon as the punter says "I need a large car, i'm moving" it's £25 minimum. The drivers bought cars, not transit vans.
