Have not got a problem with a genuine case, But! when you actually take them to the police station and the police know that they had no intention of paying, it pees me off that they just issue a fixed penalty notice and then tell me to pursue my claim through the courts.

The L.A dropped it with me after first of all telling me I was liable to prosecution, I could prove that I was working at the time - the complainant (whoever) was just being malicious.

It seems that the attitude of police forces are different, although I would also go down the route of saying even the attitudes of individual officers differs.

We used to have a Police Liason Officer who regularly attended local taxi association meetings, this definately led to the police being more sympathetic towards the taxi trade.

Perhaps its a line worth pursuing.

CC

I think you'll find almost all complaints about cab drivers are from their colleagues

What I always find disturbing is more often or not we have to answer to faceless complaints. The bottom line is that if (for instance) a group of people had it in for you, then one could be defending one's self against a portfolio of alleged complaints with no foundation whatsoever.
They could one at a time send the same complaint from different addresses, with the L.O not knowing about this.

Does'nt this type of investigation i.e(faceless/nameless) breach any human rights?

John, we used to have a problem in Sefton with the same thing, what worked for us was a very simple approach, we had copies of the relevance sections of law laminated, then members of our associations made appointments with the inspector in charge of each station, we asked if they could place them on the Wall at their receptions, we explained that on occasions new police officers were not conversant regarding taxis, each and every one was happy to oblige, mind you make sure whoever represents you has a reasonable attitude and a suit and tie.....

I have always found the police in london very helpful in this situation.
The main point here is the difference between won't pay/can't pay. I have had customers who have stopped at 6 different cash machines and none are working, I usally get fuel for the cost of the journey and they pay on thier credit card.

They would certainly laugh at your shirt Terry, but doubtless despair at your stupid, infantile, unhelpful remarks, especialy given your the self proclaimed leader of the Minicabs.

Perhaps given your constant references to bombs and explosives (The Bomb word is monitored by the security services on the internet) some members of this board may have put a phone call into the anti-Terrorist Hotline.

That would shut you up. \:D/

C GULL tonight are we??? The word ----- tends to give you away.
In many ways Brighton represents best practice, and of course a rersponsive efficient Police Service will be appreciated and co-operated with by us. I never critscise without justification, or praise, i look forward to the views of other Brighton members on the local Police. Perhaps the shower in London should take a look at Brighton??
