I have just been reading on Sky News that the number of signatures in opposition to national road charging has reached 1 million!!

Despite the government knowing this, they have decided to not listen to the people that vote them in and still plan to go ahead with road charging. Why on earth do people still vote these fools in? If this gets the go-ahead i believe that it will severely damage the taxi industry.

The article on sky news is here: http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,, ... 78,00.html

To sign the petition if you already have not go here: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/

What are other drivers thoughts?

unless of course taxis are recognised as public transport and don't have to pay.

Then it would help taxis surely.

it was the poll tax for the tories, it will be road charging for labour. this will finish them off for sure.

they spout the usual waffle about being the 'people party' but they're as pig ignorant as the other lot. they've turned the UK in to the sess pit of europe and a semi police state where you cant even voice your opinion without fear of getting arrested cos you've offended someone.

If you have been reading the news you will see that the governments website has crashed under the weight on opposition to road charging.

So if you have not signed the petition yet please make an effort to do so as the more people that sign it the more likey that it will be scrapped.

It seems though that the government is still pushing for trials and that the general public need educating!! What a great government we live under that does not even listen to the people that vote them in.

We already pay sky high fuel which is high due to tax so the more you driver the more tax you pay, simple really!! It seems all this government is after is more and more tax.

Thanks Mr Blair

And of course we could all be steering gondolas around London in the 50 years if we don't stop global warming.

And if we got our act together and lobby then Taxis, as part of the public transport system would be exempt and we would have loads more customers who leave cars at home.

So whats the problem with London being completely under water?

I agree, taxis need to be exempt.....but the whole issue seems to be a mess. The blind leading the blind.

How exactly will taxing people more solve global warming? What will they spend the money on?

How will they get the money in.....without spending millions of pounds of current money doing surveys and research?

Seems difficult to accept.....but everyone needs fuel....the fairest way is to increase fuel duty (cant believe I said that!)

if taxi's were exempt from road pricing, plate values would soar, (for some   ) with the rich buying Taxi's to avoid the charge.

The London congestion charge. All the money raised has gone in administration charges. Roads for the rich, and GBC.

Isn't fuel duty in the UK already the highest in the world?

That would be nice, and I would have thought a natural progression.

See the number of licensed vehicles go up then.
