But they will have the money to spend on these defences because of the money raised by the extra taxes they are currently imposing on us and the money raised by carbon trading/offsetting,wont they?

I am no drainage engineer,but sometimes it makes me wonder how the drainage system copes with all the new homes that are rapidly being built.
Also the local authorities should not allow the big money earning, and spending property developers build on a natural flood plain,just because it is down by the river and has a very scenic view.

No, you are right. The evidence is not conclusive.
The trend is very compelling though, wouldn't you agree?
By the time it's proved beyond doubt (if these scientists are right) it will be far too late to stop it. It may already be too late to do anything anyway.
As for why nothing is being done, that is a global problem. Every country puts own interests first. None of them want to do anything that will hurt them financially, especially if others are not doing the same. If it's too late, then what's the point?
What can we do? - B*gger all.
If the UK shut down everything in the country, China and India would make up the CO2 drop by the end of the week.
Green lightbulbs and recycling are just pointless tokenism.
If the scientists are right, we are all fecked. If they are wrong, then it doesn't matter.

I have an open mind about global warming and climate change because I’ve experienced over half a century of interchangeable weather and to be quite honest in all that time from what I can see nothing has changed.

Those areas throughout the world that have enjoyed warm weather for centuries still enjoy that warm weather today and those areas with cold climates have also remained the same over the centuries. It is ironic that across the channel they are experiencing heat waves and yet when we get a little bit of rain everyone blames it on climate change. If it wasn't for the poor drainage system in this country and the lack of proper built up river banking there might not be such devastation when we get a spell of continuous rain fall in certain areas. If you build towns and houses close to Rivers that afford no protection by virtue of high river banking then you are inviting trouble on a large scale if the river cannot an absorb above average rainfall.

The rainfall we've had had lately is nothing compared to what some countries experience so is climate change really to blame? What excuse will we get next year if we find ourselves in the middle of a heat wave like we did last year, or was it the year before? lol?

We get a little snow and this country comes to a standstill, we get an above average rainfall and the country is thrown into turmoil, we get a bit of sun and our water supply is limited. I think it is the infrastructure of the United kingdom that should bear close scrutiny because no matter which season exists we don't seem to have the ability to cope under what I would call nominal adversity.

Spot on, but I also think that it is just an excuse for governments to raise taxes.

Another way of looking at it is; We are expecting mother earth to revolve 360 degrees every year to give us summer/winter at exactly the same time, year in year out. Now what if it revolves out by shall we say half a pinhead every year, would that not explain why people are saying that it is almost as if the seasons have moved.

Well astronomers can pinpoint such movements, so if that was the cause then we'd have heard about it by now.

But I suspect it would take thousand, or more likely millions of years before any such movements would have an appreciable effect on weather patterns, whereas the debate concerns what's happened in a few decades.

Personally I expect mother Earth to revolve 360 degrees every day. The "seasons" are due to the tilting of the Earths axis in relation to the Sun which is why the amount of daylight is more at one time of year than at another.
By the way it does not move at exactly the right speed which is why every 4 years we have to add an extra day.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "right speed", but it's certainly true to say that the earth doesn't revolve exactly 365 times during each lap round the sun, hence the need for leap years

But it certainly better than the moon, which takes exactly the same time to revolve once as it takes to orbit the earth, so the same side of the moon is always facing the earth.

If the earth did that in relation to the sun then it would be permanent day on one side and permanent night on the other.

Quite possible! but what is to say that the measuring points used in outer space are not themselves moving.

For instance if it is the Sun that they are using, how are they in its massive ball of flame able to identify the exact same point of measurement every time. I do not think that it is reasonable to think that the temperature of the Sun is the same all over, up or down just a few degrees coming through space would and could make all the difference.

However I am prepare to bow to superior knowledge, but! at the moment as far as I am concerned it is another excuse to raise TAXES.
