Since Duncombe place rank closed at 10pm no one seems to be taking any notice, the same cars rank up there waiting for passengers to arrive, and the hotel manager continues to take numbers and report to the LA, the LA in turn erect signs informing the public that the rank is closed and someone keeps tearing them down,I do not think with a de regulation meeting coming up in September this is a good time to take the mickey out of the Council, after all they will have the last word.

In this case surely it's got to be better, for all, that the cabs pick up the punters where the punters want to be picked up.

The quicker punters can be picked up, and got home, the better for all.

All the time they are roaming the streets, the more chance of dis-order, either by them or against them. :?

I'll bet the hotel manager doesn't mind the rank being there during the day

Probably, but on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays there are always more cabs than punters and a continuing line of cars is not what anyone wants to see.

well why do you think that is then???, cos they is no work, you can't keep riding round

if you have travelled, lets just be bigheaded and i will tell you where i have been [all army posting, latter holidays]
Malta Gibraltar, Cyprus, Bahrain, Sharjah,Botswana, Libya, Nairobi, Aden, Rhodesia, Zambia..... holidays Belgium, France, Eygypt, Spain, Tunisia, the list goes on

ever noticed the cabs in those countries, yes you have, lines of them, why would/should York be different, and it makes you wonder how they make a living

Yes yesterday i was approached by a bloke with a beard and a York taxi ID badge

it was late, it was Duncombe place closed taxi rank, he didn't id himself, he came up like a bull in a china shop from nowhere

"you can't stop in this street" he said, "the taxi rank is closed, i have been watching you lot

i sussed it out it was the new ex copper enforcement officer

he ask me what i was doing here, i said, plying for hire

you can't do that the rank is closed he said

i am taking you number, be free to do so i said its there for the world to see

i said i am plying using byelaw 9a, ply for hire anywhere in any street after 1900hrs

whats byelaw 9a he said, just let me make a note of that he said, he then said you must go to the next nearest taxi rank, i said no no no, its free for all after 1900hrs, byelaw 9a, and he didn't know

then he went to another driver and asked why he was here, picking up my wife the driver said, ok thats ok but why have you got your light on, cos its connected to my meter said the driver, and left him to it

I don't get the point of this rant, my point is that with a deregulation meeting in September if you keep annoying the council and they deregulate then you will earn less money and will not be able to afford any more of these holidays,

It might be wise for you guys in York to start pushing for higher hackney carriage driver entry levels and put your own proposals to Dick Haswell and the council instead of waiting for the obvious to happen.

Regards
