Doesn't sound as if your too hard done by over there.

I've no complaints about the official tariff, but you were trying to justify £49 for a 14-mile run on the basis that there was no return run, and it's very rare for us to get them, so to imply that our tariff is high kinda contradicts your earlier stance.

Also, I don't know if you've done the sums, but for a 14 mile run the Fife tariff is about £22 on the day rate and £28 on the night rate, so if you can justify £49 in Edinburgh then I can't see how you can imply that our tariff is high.

And as I implied earlier, the chances of getting the official tariff on longer runs is virtually nil.

Just curious FF,it's been a while since I took any real interest in things like this, got a bit fed up with it all really.

You have to keep going though eh,keep arguing your case with honesty and integrity, never letting others put you off doing the right thing if you need to.

P.S We could go into the fare structure in great detail but do you think it would do us any good,I dont .
The costs quoted for a diesel car were only for comparison, likewise the mileage of 25,000 of course if they ever introduce the road tolling at the £1.34 per mile that was quoted and then add the running costs of the diesel car on top of that you would not be that far from £2 per mile in your own car anyway,so £49 might seem like a bargain for a 26-28 round trip.

Hear, hear.

It would be at least that in the GBC taxi. [-(

There's always the Bus if he's that concerned about the cost to the taxpayers. An MP going on about overcharging and lack of value for money? There's irony for you.

Talking of Fife and St Andrews, I see that the Women's Open is being played on the old course.

Oh dear, things just wont ever be the same again. [-X

That's all very well, but it's all about what the local market will bear, and the market up here just won't bear that kind of fare.

The council lost the plot a bit with the fares a few years ago, and that was when the discounting started big style.

For example, the official tariff to Glasgow is about £150, but there are firms with £20k+ motors doing it for less than a ton.

Apparently the local association recently agreed that we should only charge the metered price, trouble is they didn't tell the 90% or so of the local trade who don't bother with the association.

And some of the cars are barely worth £150, so it's not surprising that they can offer huge discounts if the cars worth 150 times that can as well.

But all the firms discount, and the biggest moaners by far about it are those offering the biggest discounts - I think that if someone steals their thunder then they're regarded as some kind of criminal.

Their hypocrisy is all a bit amusing, but I'm fed up of all the bickering etc that's been caused.

Well the golf scene here is much like any other (ie sexist and male-oriented!) but it's the Royal and Ancient Golf Club that grabs all the headlines.

Apparently they once had a sign at the clubhouse door (that's the one you see on the TV near the 18th green) saying "No Dogs or Women Allowed", but now they've dropped the reference to dogs

So the average Dundee driver is charging nearly £50 to Cupar or St Andrews?

Aye, right

If we all just said its on the meter mate, take it or leave it, regardless of if you are going out of your area we could all make a living.
In the 1982 act it does state that the meter must be on from A to B. regardless
so if someone complains about the fare the driver has only himself to blame for not using the meter, If I was a punter and the meter was not on I would just get out at my destination and say have a nice day and walk away without paying if the meter was not displaying the fare

Death race 2000 springs to mind
Yes it is advisable to get the fare up front but quote the right fare, and run the meter so the punter knows they are not being riped off, I think we all know what the right fares are to the airports or stations or other cities
