Should the Scots who pay taxes & buy the lottery subsidise the London Olympic Games to the tune of £900 million ?

The games are not just for folk in London and I will certainly be looking at going to the games even though I live in Glasgow. The games are for Great Britain.

Are you going to say the same for the Commonwealth Games 2014 if Glasgow get them?

The good citizens of Paris, Brussels & Amsterdam are closer to London than we are, I don't see them subsidising the Games

I do believe that many folks from the great country of Scotland will be using the venues.

And it will be the folks from the great country of England that help pay for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, should you get it.

So, you think the people who come to the Olympics are going to stay in England? And the Scots won't benefit from the increased tourism?

Why not write to the PM and ask him he seems to be doing alright as a Scot in England (as is most of the cabinet!)

Oh and thanks for all the oil!!

Hi
I hate this sort of garbage. Paisley Buddy, if you dont like it TOUGH! Its going to happen.

Like others have said when Scotland gets the 2014 Commonwealth Games then I would expect the UK Gov to help out with some of the funding.

Your just being bitter and twisted about it all. Now if you cant earn enough money driving a hack in Paisley then maybe we should have a whip round for you and buy you a return train ticket to London to visit the games.

Paisley Buddie has a point here, and that is it will cost more from Scotland, than our European naghbours to go and stay while the games are on.
travel, hotels B@B food. taxis ( GBC)
I dont understand why the games have to be in London, they should have found a place in the middle of the UK, this would have reduced the running and construction costs, and made it cheaper for everyone to get to.
The venue for the commonwealth games will be a lot cheaper to construct, than the olympic one

Because the IOC don't want it anywhere else in the UK.

For the record radiomen The Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council have agreed to underwrite the costs of staging the Games. This will be on the basis of an 80/20 split. It is expected that the majority of the 80% of costs to be covered by the Executive will be new money committed to the sports and major events budget ie. no subsidy from the UK Government or lottery players !

The bids to host the Olympic games are from cities and not countries. Next years games are the beijing games not the chinese games.

The games are called the London games but some of the events will be held in other areas of the country. I can't see the sailing taking place in London and I am sure the rowing and kayaking are not taking place in London.

I think you will find that some of the football games will be held around the UK including Hampden in Glasgow.
