Does anyone on here work in Nottingham, according to the master at Station taxis he has been to Nottingham to see how National Express run their operation, as they are soon to take over at York, he has come back with the news that all the taxis that work out of Nottingham are on a radio circuit and that anyone wishing to use York station after next May will have to have a radio or will not be allowed in, Iknow this was questioned some years ago and I wonder is it legal.

I forgot to mention that they really are strugling at Station taxi's and do not have enough work for the people who are on the radio already, the only reason they would try to impose this condition is to raise much needed money through the £50 a week rent

The holder of the franchise can do what they want. If they say you need a radio then you need a radio.

That is what Station taxi's have said, national express will write it into their contract that all cars must have a radio this does not seem right somehow.

I don't know if they would have the legal right to do it in respect of existing contracts but they would certainly have the right to do it under any new contracts.

but why are Stn Taxis thinking they are the ones to get the contract, surely this has by law to go out to tender

Streamline taxis [PH] have also been sniffing round the stn, and will probably put in a bid, ok they, Streamline, bought out Local taxis for 160 grand to which made a huge fleet, at the end of the day Streamline spent the money and now most of Local taxis have now gone to other firms, unhappy with Streamline, so that was a pointless exercise and waste of money

some say PH have no chance with the Stn contract, want to bet, a few years ago it was discussed that an office for PH was to be placed on the Leeman road side of the Stn exit on that waste land, that option is still in place

even if Stn taxis get the new contract and all have to have radios, some drivers/owners i spoke to say with shrugged shoulders, whatever, i'll just pay it, typical York taxi drivers going with the flow, so to ply the Stn it will cost around 500 quid for permit plus around 2600 quid for the radio for the year, 3000 quid just to ply, thats an income of around nearly half a million quid a year from all drivers, and who knows what the true cost of a permit really is from the railway

amyway i thought Stn taxis was told 5 years ago by OFT that what they are doing is illeagal forcing taxi drivers to have radios, or was that the Monopoly commission

I'm not sure there is a law which says trains firms have to tender out their ranks.

Many do, but not all. Most just say it's X a year and you either pay it or not.
