If this is directed at me then you are barking up the wrong tree but I would like to know what facts this person was given and by whom maybe i'll phone them myself and give them a few facts?

In the latest limo mag it says on page 92 (nicely presented on-line mag by the way) that this stretch hummer has only been given single type approval for up to eight passengers.

Why not up to 16? :?

It says SVA not type approval. You certainly know your limos don't you. This is a Hummer H3 which is a lot smaller than it's big brother, the H2. The H3 carries 8 passengers and I am sure you are aware that the SVA only covers vehicles up to 8 passengers.

So are you alluding that someone phoned up the DfT to ask if the self-drive scheme was illegal?

Well I don't think the DfT would proffer a legal opinion on the issue (and that's why I wouldn't ask them) so if you're alluding to this then perhaps you could post the department's legal opinion here for all to see.

No, I didn't think so [-(

Is there anything to apologise for, kermit? Somebody anonymous allegedly phones VOSA or DfT and is allegedly told something he doesn't like? No details of the conversation have been posted. Your celebration may prove a bit premature.

Not at the moment, but save the thought.
Kermit, S6 specialist and yourself may yet have need of it. 8)

Apology for wot? :-s

Mr S6 Conversion specialist. hasn't specified anything that has to be apologised for, because he knows there's nothing concrete, so he's either just trying to wind you or his opponents up, but either way he's said nothing of substance. :-#

Quite right gusmac; I mean, imagine if someone asked the DfT whether a section of the limo industry had concocted a scam that allowed convicted murders and rapists to drive limos, because those profiting from it won't answer the question.

The cheek of it

I think Sussex asked "why not up to sixteen"? In a round about way you told him but he got there in the end and thats all that matters?

TDO isn't familiar with the taste of humble pie but I'm sure we would all love to see the recipe for all these concocted contracts that try and circumvent our laws on "hire or reward". Such as the scam Wedding contract I was offered by a certain limo operator in Cheshire which they use for carrying up to sixteen passengers? Or perhaps a copy of the self drive hire contract that is more secretive than GCHQ or perhaps a nice copy of one of the 7 day contract hire agreements that the DfT highlighted as being illegal, in a great many cases.

I don't expect humble pie to taste that good but we have dished out our fair share in the past and we still have a few helpings to go around should you feel a little hungry?

Regards

JD

I think you can download the 7 day contract from the NLcA web site.

You know as well as any that i could not divulge anything , but someone on here DOES know.

JD,
You also know that ringing Dft VOSA etc and telling them the laws would get you know where because their simple answer would be "providing they are operating the self drive system correctly then theres nothing we can do"

You could then bang on about how much checking you have done and found various companies who are not complying to the letter of the law etc .

Do you think that they dont know Hire or Reward rules ?????

Course they do!

Are you saying that you have the might of the taxi industry behind you or just a few ops on a forum ??????

Why do i get the feeling you are a union man, shop steward or maybe something similar and glorious?

There has been years of work ,many man hours and umpteen meetings between representatives of the limo industry and goverment, many things have already changed , many facts you dont know , yet you think you can suddenly influence all this and have some affect on what happens within the limo industry ???

I respect your knowledge of the regulations and laws within the Taxi/PH trade , but i seriously think that for you to suddenly step outside this little world your in and move into something which you have very little knowledge or facts of previous legal goings on would be foolish to say the least.

legislation is a long way past even where you think it is and the fact that you are privy to none of the information from recent meetings with goverment dept leaves you at a serious disadvantage and these few facts alone would prohibit you from really affecting anything.

Maybe best to stick to what you know and not (maybe for the first time) get your fingers burnt and damage your very good and helpful record within the Taxi/Ph fraternity.

Are you suggesting that I am the person you alluded to who "spoke" to someone at VOSA or the DFT about the illegal practice of limos?

That should be a simple enough question for you?

Regards

JD
