Perhaps it's a case of resiting the test until you pass? lol

I dont understand why someone who has been driving has to take the test when reapplying for his badge, I hope the one that failed is a new-bee and not an old hand

Sorry, a bit late in on this one!

In the 2/3 years there has been a massive increase in the number of badges issued, in the main to 'non-locals.'

A very large number of complaints were aired to us as drivers about passengers being taken on scenic routes who were then charged in excess of even that metered fare with various excuses.

If just a fraction of the comments I heard reached the council, they had a full in-tray.

They introduced a written and verbal geography and bye-law test but, in order that they did not appear discriminatory, asked existing drivers to take it. We, of course, agreed. The test was fairly basic with only one or two 'googlies' but the volume of complaints reaching my ears seems to have diminished so, the strategy may have worked.

I'm quite happy for drivers to join the rank if they can do the job and not give the public a bad impression which then reflects on me!
