The problem is that the only firm to build a vehicle to meet such requirements aren't up to the job, cos people (when given a choice) don't want the product nor to pay the price.

In an open market LTI would be no more, which is why when it looked like London might bin the turning-circle they didn't rule out building a new model without the turning-circle requirement.

But on the little birdie line I heard they might bring out a new hybrid engine next year. Hybrid of what is anyone's guess.

I still cannot get my head around as to why the OFT have never got involved re LTI.

Funny hand shake gang must be at work

And I can't get my head round why you think the OFT should get involved.

It is quite simple, Red Ken insists on LTI cabs only for London to the exclusion of any other make. That in itself is an unfair trading practice, hence why I say the OFT should be involved.

To my mind if it were not for him - LTI would not be anymore, as it would seem that the bulk of their trade has been done through London.

You are, simply put, wrong.

Any manufacturer can build a vehicle to meet the present Conditions of Fitness, as Metrocab did.

Jimbo you are missing the point that you raised concerning "OFT." I am not arguing against the right to build any vehicle, what I am saying is that they "LTI" have a unique/cartel trading privilege signed by "Ken."

This should be looked at by the OFT because as it stands they can charge what they like for the vehicles. As it is, they charge an extortionate price, and that is not right because London taxi drivers cannot purchase any other vehicle.

Oil companies,Supermarkets, Microsoft have all been taken to task over having a monopoly of their respective markets along with price fixing.

You have exactly the same situation with LTI, no competition allowed, so they can and do charge what they like.

So call the OFT and ask them to investigate.

If it affected me I would.

I take it that you are out of argument.
