Cabbie overtook on double white lines
Craven Herald
A taxi driver overtook on double white lines because he was being hassled by his passengers, a court heard.
Shahid Saleem, 29, was trying to catch up time when he passed another car on June 2 on the A6068 at Glusburn, Skipton magistrates heard.
The court was told that Saleem was running late through no fault of his own and had risked his licence by trying to keep his customers happy.
The married father of four had since sold his taxi business and was currently unemployed.
He pleaded guilty to failing to comply with double white lines and was fined £35 and his licence was endorsed with three penalty points.
Saleem, of Ashleigh Street, Keighley, received an absolute discharge for driving without insurance after magistrates accepted that his brokers were at fault for failing to ensure he was adequately covered.
Saleem was also ordered to pay £45 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
