Does anyone know how many sunflowers it would need to make a gallon of veggie oil :?:

Sorry for asking a daft question, but i have had a little tipple

All i mean is...if we started to use veggie oil :-k would this not mean that we would have to have loads of open land for the farming of the PLANTS that this oil is produced from and could we keep up with the production side of it :-k

By the way i am not a tree swinger

I also do not fancy the day when there is a national shortage of veggie oil(due to the shortage of open land in this country for some strange reason),as the taxidriver will get the blame for everyone not being able to cook the dinner  :evil:due to th lack of cooking oil.

And there is noway i am going to rely on peanut oil either,as kp cost too much  (plus the filter would be crap as well

Seriously tho,

The price of fuel is getting way out of hand again and i think the sh"t is just about to hit the fan :-k

A lot of the vegi oil is rape seed oil and no, I don't know how many gallons of oil you get from a field full of it but I do know it looks preety in spring.

There have been stories in the press and on TV recently where it has been stated that the wheat production has gone down in this country because the amount of rape seed and other similar things has increased which has led to an increase in the grain prices and subsequently the price of bread has gone up. It has also increased the cost of animal feed so the price of british meat is also going up.

on a different vein but same line from wgat Grandads in about, I sold 30 good blackface lambs on Monday at loacl auction for £16.50 each, the top price was £23.00 for lambs that were as good as you can get. Theres just no demand the buyers say?, but does the benefit of low purchasing prices pass on down the line?........to the hosewife, you would not buy a leg of lamb that came from these lambs gor less than £20, now its got 4 legs, a lot of chops, a neck, flank,................ it just does not balance out.If Its not profitable producers will stop, nobody can work at a loss indefinetly. What will happen then, all our meat imported?

Our local farm shop sells half a lamb at £2.00 per pound so that is around £36-£38 for a half or £72-£76 for a whole lamb.
