Missing cabbie plea

Concern is growing for the whereabouts of a missing cabbie who suffers from Parkinson's Disease.

David Venables, who lives on Moreton Road in Fyfield, was last seen by his wife at their home on Friday June 29.

The 68-year-old, who has been married for 46 years, has been without his vital medication since his disappearance almost four months ago.

Concerned police have stepped up the search this week and are centring their investigations on the St John's Wood area of north London, where Mr Venables's black Hackney carriage taxi was found abandoned in an underground car park in early July.

Det Supt David Peplow from Essex Police said: "At this stage we really are at a loss and do not know where David is.

"We have been working with telephone records, banks and cab companies both here in Essex and in London with a view to identifying some sort of trail that may have been left.

"We desperately want to hear from him or anyone that has seen him since July."

Mr Venables is described as white, around 5ft 11ins tall, with grey and balding hair, and speaks with a London cockney accent.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Essex Police on 01279 641188.

POLICE HUNT MAN IN MISSING CABBIE CASE

08:00 - 28 November 2007

This man, caught on CCTV at Canary Wharf underground station, could hold the key to finding a missing Fyfield cabbie.

David Venables, 68, was reported missing from his Moreton Road home by his wife on June 29.

He has Parkinson's disease and has been without vital medication since his disappearance.

Essex Police travelled to the London platform on Monday morning to try and identify the man and are also asking anyone who recognises him to contact them.

They have not said why they need to speak to him or what part they believe he may have played in Mr Venables' disappearance.

Senior investigating officer David Peplow said: "I cannot be too specific at this time as to why we need to know who he is.

"At this stage we do not know if he is central to our investigation or not.

"As a result we would urge him, or anyone who knows him, to contact us immediately so we can continue with our main task of finding David."

He added: "We continue to liaise se closely with David's wife and daughters, who remain worried about his health and wellbeing."

A 53-year-old woman and 51-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of murdering Mr Venables in October and have been bailed until December.

The couple are from the St John's Wood area of London, where Mr Venables' Hackney carriage taxi was discovered in an underground car park.

If you have any information, call police on 01279 641212.
