Taxi Driver Online

I am just changing districts etc. (bloody nightmare ).

Am I right in thinking I need to get driving licence first, then vehicle licenced after. It appears to me that once my vehicle is tested/licenced by the LA, I would not be able to drive it (even on private use) until my badge has been issued ( possible delay due to Christmas and slow CRB etc; it will come back clear ).

I really do think that once you are licensed by any LA, you should be able to move to another district and at least be able to work whilst the licence is changed (just due to some arbitary line on a map). After all you are now supposed to be able to work in any EC country.

Put both applications in at the same time, if possible. Don't let them test the vehicle until your drivers licence is approved.

If not possible then drivers licence first.

I have a freind who drives fo 4 differnt companies in 4 differnt council areas all within a 25 mile radios, costs him a fortune in licenses and medicals etc, but what other choice does he have.( at least he claims it against tax)

Have you moved house/office to the other district?

Otherwise you can work where you like under your existing licenses.

Moving to a new licensing area?

If so then you can get your ops license without a vehicle or driver's license, get your vehicle license without an ops or driver's license, and get your driver's license without an ops or vehicle license.

have you asked the council of the area your moving to if they would just swap your plates and badge as your licenced already,, ours does even though its just zones

Must say though, the officer at the LA has been VERY helpful unlike the next door authority who don't seem to have a clue or care in any way.

Caught between two districts at the moment, office in one, home in the other but they are only 3.2 miles apart . So I decided to make my home the office, only interested in pre booked airport/corporate work, sod the drunks leave them to HC and limo ( whoops shouldn't have mentioned that four letter word) I wonder if Sussex named his teddy Limo

If you going to drive the vehicle yourself which I presume you are, then you will need a drivers license. You don't need a drivers license to take it for its test as it is not a hackney carriage. When the plates do go on then it is a hackney carriage and you will need a hackney carriage drivers license drive it. Unless you license the vehicle as private hire?

appointment to get driver license booked.

Hopefully by end of Jan will have everything in place, I started the applications in November 2007, there has to be a better way than this to change operations.

I think the CRB delay is the main culprit.

That said I'm of the opinion the harder it is to get a license the better.
