Hunt for man who raped taxi girl

A 19-year-old woman was raped after getting out of a taxi near to a patch of waste ground in Cheetham Hill.

The woman, who had been on a night out in Manchester city centre between 2.15am and 3.50am on January 12, got out of the taxi on Cheetham Hill Road near Strangeways prison as she did not have any money.

While she looked for a telephone box, a man approached her and offered her a lift home. She declined, and he directed her to a phone box.

She began walking and was following him along the main road and onto a side street. It was there the man grabbed her by her dress and dragged her to an area of waste ground behind a Ladbrokes betting shop.

He pushed her to the ground and raped her.

He ran off after he appeared to have heard voices or footsteps.

The offender is described as white, around 5ft 9ins tall and aged between 19 and 26 years old. He is medium to fat build and was wearing a high-collared long black or navy blue coat. He has mid-length dark hair.
