Taxi driver accused of sex offences against women

A PAIGNTON taxi driver has appeared in court accused of six sexual offences against women.

Jordan Brokenshire, of Langs Road, was charged with two counts of sexual touching, three of causing women to engage in sexual activity and one sexual assault. All of the alleged victims were aged 16 or over.

The charges refer to separate incidents ranging from last September to this June.

Two offences were allegedly committed in Newton Abbot last summer.

Two allegedly happened in Kingsteignton in June of this year and two in Torquay also in June of this year.

Police say all of the offences are alleged to have occurred while he was working as a cabbie.

Brokenshire, 28, submitted no plea when he appeared at Torbay Magistrates' Court yesterday, and he was given conditional bail. He was committed to appear at Exeter Crown Court on November 26.

The bail restrictions included the order he does not contact witnesses, and he does not enter certain addresses.

Torbay Council has already said Brokenshire's licence to be a taxi driver has been suspended until the outcome of the case against him is known, and confirmed he worked as a hackney carriage driver.

It is understood licensing councillors are expected to discuss the suspension of his licence in private when they meet at Torquay Town Hall on Thursday, November 18.

The council issues licenses for cabbies, hackney drivers who use blue plates, and private hire drivers, who use red plates.

It has the power to suspend or revoke those licenses if the holders are charged with criminal offences or convicted.

The council would not confirm the identity of the man facing a suspension hearing due the 'confidential' nature of the case.
