Taxi driver in court accused of boy's rape

A Swansea taxi driver has gone on trial accused of raping a boy.

Vincent Matthews pleaded not guilty when the case began yesterday at Swansea Crown Court.

Jurors were told that 44-year-old Matthews, of Cwrt Cilmeri, Morriston, was one of the owners of city firm Yellow Cabs.

Patrick Griffiths, prosecuting, said a police investigation was launched after the boy claimed he had been sexually attacked by the defendant.

Questioned by detectives after his arrest, Matthews said the rape allegation was a lie.

He insisted he was not sexually interested in children or men.

Played in court yesterday was a video recording made when the young complainant was first interviewed by the police about his alleged ordeal.

The case continues.

Any idea if he just didn't renew his badge, or was it taken from him because of the allegations?

And wonder what happened at the original trial which made the judge stop it? The link to the article in Sussex's post is now a dead link, and I can't find anything else about the original trial.

Maybe Sussex will remember 8-[

Can’t remember but at a guess I suspect there wasn’t enough evidence at the end of the prosecution case to allow the trial to continue.

On the BBC article in relation to this conviction it says he was already on the sex offenders register, which indicates why he didn’t have a license anymore.

Nasty man, is defo in the right place now.
