Post subject:  Why do police turn a blind eye to taxi drivers?
I dont know about you guys

But the police around our area are crap when you call them when someone does a runner or refuses to pay allway told it a civil matter and the police can do nothing about it :x would it be the same law if some did this in a high street store :?:

Well let me be the bearer of good news its criminal act to go to a restraunt and order food without the resources to pay also to get into a taxi without resources to pay.

if they get the [edited by admin] make them wash the taxi!

mate of mine had a runner the other day, stupid fare did a runner in to his own house!!

mate managed to get it to court got the £25 fare plus £25 waiting time and the fare got done for shoplifting ??!! 50 hours community service.

I think part of the problem might be that if someone takes something from a shop then the criminal intent is obvious, esp if it's caught on CCTV etc.

On the other hand with a runner there's little in the way of proof and they can always claim that they just forgot that they didn't have money, in which case it is a civil matter, because there's no criminal intent if you just forgot that you'd run out of money, or at least claimed that this was the case.

But generally the police are crap.

As a taxi driver i know this is the case, would'nt the powers of be be better sorting this out than worring about fire engines or tanks,
maybe they never got a fire engine as a wee boy,OR IS THIS AN EASY SUBJECT TO PICK ON,THAT THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.

ISNT IT TIME WHEN WE CALLED THE POLIE WE GOT SOME HELP...

of course its illegal to get into a taxi without resources to pay.
if they have no money they should book a private hire car

no it isnt actually.
its illegle to get into a taxi without the recourses to pay however it was booked, though its not ilegal to get into a private hire car I am told.

though if you do a runner thats showing no intention of paying anyway!
but private hire will have a pick up address and delivery address so they will surely be able to get thier money!

whereas a taxi may not

Thankfully, the Theft Act doesn't discriminate in the same way as other Acts. :roll: :roll: :roll:

If you get into a HC or PH, find out at the end of the journey that you are without funds, and promise to pay in a reasonable time, that's a civil matter.

However if you get out and run, then that's theft, no-matter what vehicle you are running from. :wink:
