My best job was Christmas Eve morning, at about 9am, I went to one of our regular customers houses (she's a single Mum, we usually take her children to school everyday), and I had to take her children up to her Mum's house, and drop her at Tescos. An hour later, I picked her up from Tesco's to take her home. She was a bit upset as she didnt have enough money to get everything she needed. I helped her unload her shopping, and took it into her house, and had a coffee.

To cut what could turn into a very long story short, I didnt work any more that day, or Christmas day (I am off until Monday - well theoretically), and she came to mine for Christmas with her kids and cooked Christmas dinner for us all. And is laying on the setee behind me. I could add a lot more detail, but I will leave you all to guess at that. Brillo Chrissy.

Just for Sussex Andy, if things go as well as they have the last two days, I will get her a Hackney Licence and put her in the car as a journeyman. (Well, journeywoman), and we will make excess profits and live happily ever after.

DeLimitation? OFT Report? Lack of Rank spaces? Huh! I just don't care anymore !!!!!!!!

I don't work either Christmas or Boxing Day.

If you can't earn your dough on the other 363 days of the year, go drive a bus.

I don't work Christmas or Boxing day or new years eve either. But thats primarily because I am just lazy. Any excuse for a day off is good enough for me. But then I dont work nights (anymore) or Saturdays or Sundays.

However, I reckon I still do between 12 and 16 hours a day, monday to friday, either working, or doing things associated with work.

And then, in my spare time...

I come on here!

(Andy examines his own brain).

Yes but SM if none of us worked, then they would have to run buses.

But what's wrong with a few lads earning a nice few quid, whilst you are stuffing your face?

I didn't work Christmas Day or Boxing Day but my best job in the lead up to Christmas was when I, and others took a group of children from the local Special Needs School to Santa's Grotto in the town centre.

Some things are so much better than cash.

Sounds a little exorbitant for the mileage.. Wonder what the flag fall and subsequent yardage amounts were? We were working on Tariff 2 flag plus £1 (£3.10) and normal yardage so the customers were all happy and I still had a nice little earner. Only one person complained and they were asylum seekers. "£3.10 already !!!!" he shouted and started talking to his pals in their language. I tried explaining that the extra sov was Christmas rate but to no avail. At the end of the journey he told me to deduct £1.50 from the £15.50 fare, handing me a £20 note. I gave him his £4.50 change and wised them Merry Christmas, adding that I hoped they got some better weather for the rest of their holiday.

I shout about giving the public a proper service too, and for most of the year give a service second to none.

as a christian living in a christian country I also believe we should be able to spend some time during our feast.

Hypocritical? not at all after all some use christmas just to be on the make dont they?

the very next posting which I think is the same author as this describes the treatment of people possibly evading certain death, on christmas day.

to some people christmas day has a real spiritual meaning to others just another day of bullying and holding power over people.

This thread has some wonderfull examples of christianity and the meaning of christmas, my favorite was the cabbie spending christmas with a mother running out of cash, and finishing in love.

others sound rather like the celebration of satan.

We run a skeleton service of two drivers on Xmas Day. 90% is pre booked and a huge percentage is moving elderly folk to relatives or hospital visits.

The two drivers who work are both single, without immediate family and they love the day.

We charge exhorbitant double fare and anyone who questions it gets told we are fully booked.

Still my cheaper, 'why pay more' competitors don't bother.

well this christmas is the 19th and last one for me

the taxi insurance runs out on the 13th of jan and it aint getting renewed!

its took 19 years, working in 4 different boroughs, taxi'ing and private hire, stabbed twice, gun pointed at me head, countless spewers, ars*hole ph proprietors and enough aggravation to last me a lifetime to realise enough is enough!

ill miss the driving but i wont miss the hassle, nor the LO, or the council taxi test LOL
