| Post subject: | Data Problems, who's had problems with their Data system? |
Hi There, I am in the market for a data system and would like to know how many of you guys have had problems. Points I would like to know about. Did you lose drivers? Did the system go in easily? What was the data system provider like with training and support? Does your system crash often? Any other points I have missed, please feel free to inpart your knowledge and experience on me. Cheers

There is a general assumption that you may lose a few drivers at the start, because they are stuck in the past and love the idea of pen and paper. However it is also assumed that some will come back into the fold in a short time, and you will gain work and drivers through having data. I think both are generally right. Sometimes the new system goes in well, other times not so well. I think if you have pukka office staff and a good bunch of drivers it helps, if not, be prepared for no sleep for a month or two. I work with Auriga, which although I hate, hardly ever breaks down. |

Mr Cabbie Only one piece of advice from another Auriga user. Go and see the system in action at more than one company using the systems you consider. Salesman talk is a waste of space, go and ask another taxi what problems he had and how he overcame it. If someone is prepared to show their system off then that is the best recommendation you can get. |

The minor thing is I don't like the look of the thing, I would much prefer one of those hand held things. Also I don't think the system is quick enough, it may be the same with the rest, but I'm not that happy with it. The bidding process is a complete waste of time, and in the end drivers don't use it. So if you are thinking about going Auriga, don't buy that bit. I'm led to believe the service/backup charges are exorbitant, but I suppose that has been dealt with on another thread. If a controller talks to a driver, it holds up the system for everyone for a while, which slows everything down. Unless you have loads of screens, the controller takes ages to respond to your requests to speak to them, cos the 'hello I'm waiting like a c***' display is on a different page than what they are looking at. There are a few other things I don't like, but it may be me trying to look for perfection, and all the systems may be just as bad. But Tom's point is relevant, go to a site that Auriga point you too, but go to another one they don't.

Well of thread here Sussex, but never mind. The Auriga system can be slow, but it is possible to zip it up. Ask Aqua how they shift the work, they have have modifications done I believe. The star70 button is a problem, but you can force it open and [edited by admin] off the controller. Controllers talking to a driver shouldn't slow it down unless you are only on 1 channel. |

Double click your mic. That opens up voice channel and away you go.

Auriga must work on two channels. Voice and data. If not Sussex then ask your operator why. Which Auriga system are you using. I cant remember the name of the original data unit but it the later is the CT model. And dont forget, it has to be robust for all that poking. My CT 3000 has been used for the last three years and still looks new. |
