well last weekend was the extra preliminary round of the FA cup which is always fascinating as it's where the real mimmows meet the teams from tier 8 down and it was quite surprising because 1 former league club was taking part  along with a couple of teams who used to be conference stalwarts

some selected highlights

10 goal thrillers/thrashings Rugby town and malvern town managed to score 5 apiece and draw 5-5 Brockenhurst edged a 10 goal thriller vsFleet town 6-4 and street managed to thrash Millbrook 9-1

two other bi goal hauls were Charnock Richard 7-0 vs squires gate so the motorway services thrashed the tram terminus ! and poor Littlehampton got thumped 6-0 at home to erith and belvedere. Yaxley who finished bottom of our division last year with just 6 pooints carried on with their great form losing 7-0 at home to Wroxham

The channel islands are still represented with Jersey bulls drawing 0-0 at sittingbourne, and the cornish club where the ground can hold the entire population of the village twice over, Mousehole beat Ilfracombe 4-1 .The team who i think have the most unusual name in football, west allotment celtic won 5-0 at Sunderland RCA. and Liverpool(AFC) lost 5-0 at home to Lower Beck whoever they are.

1874 Northwich (formerley known as Northwich Victoria) a former conference stalwart lost 2-0 at Osset ALbion. Worcester city who used to play in front of 3000 crowds in the conference but are now low enough in the pyramid to have to enter this early got a good 3-0 win over dudley town. Former league club Bury AFC (still playing at Gigg lane but 9th tier ! ) won 4-1 at Uttoxeter.

elsewhere Jimbo's non league team Lincoln united won 3-0 away at Lutterworth and FC Romania (set up by Romanian immigrants) beat tilbury 5-0 and Carlisle city lost 2-1 at Whickham

Locally only 1 side left in (until we enter) and they crashed out 3-0 away at Ashby Ivanhoe. The fenland derby ended Wisbech3 March town utd 1

Grandad should be happy as Melton town got a good win away at winterton rangers who are 1 tier higher winning 4-2

down in Sussex country Lancing won 5-0 at home vs Rusthall and Haywards heath managed to lose 5-0 at home to whitstable

if there's anyone on here whose team is in the competition let me know and I will shout their results out

most of the replays were last night with evesham and rugby town only managing 3 goals between them this time the away side coming out on top.

jersey Bulls progress winning 2-0

Locally the gingerbreads won their replay 1-0 away at loughborough University but no major shocks as the results mainly went with position in the pyramid

next up the preliminary round and then the 1st qualifying when we enter

i'ts interesting that games ar scheduled for 19th August but any postponement or replays must take place within 5 days !

So the last of the preliminary rounds has taken place and a few sides getting a good old thrashing with loads of goals getting scored

these include

Crawley gatwick 3-6 Hanworth villa (9 goals)
Tadley Calleva 1-8 AFC Portchester
8 goals
Falmouth 2-6 Frome
Newhaven 7 -1 Spelthorne
Tavistock 3-5 Barnstaple
hadley 6-2 Litttle Oakley
7 goals
Bishop Auckland 7-0 Seaham red star
Belper town 2 leek 5 ( I do enjoy seeing Belper lose :D )
Colney Heath 2-5 FC Romania
Padiham 2-5 Clitheroe
Khalsa 6-1 Heanor

2 Former League clubs went in this round Bury lost 3-2 at Charnock Richard services with AFC Rushden and diamonds lost 1-0 at fakenham with former Conference Stalwarts Worcester city winning 2-1 at Westfields

West Auckland who famousley represented the FA in a forrunner of the European cup (and won) beat Shildon 4-0

The club with the best name in non league West Allottment Celtic sadly bowed out 2-0 at home to tadcaster Albion and the little village team from Cornwall, Mousehole won 5-1 at st blazey

the Battle of the USAF bases finished Mildenhall1-0 Lakenheath

Jersey Bulls drew again 1-1 this time at home meanwhile down on the South coast Eastbourne beat Sheerwater 3-0

Melton Towns mini run came to an end losing 4-2 at grimsby borough but Jimbo's non league club Lincoln United won 4-0 away at Bottesford

the team that beat us in the 1984 wembley final, Stansted lost 5-0 at Brightlingsea and the team we beat in the 1980 Wembley final, Guisborough won 3-1 at Pontrefact colliery

More locally Wisbech lost 5-1 at home to Biggleswade, Grantham lost 3-1 at sherwood colliery   and Spalding drew 1-1 at home to Shepshed Dynamo but the shock of the round was Corby 0-4 Lowestoft    and Newark lost 4-0 at home to Harborough town who are at home to us in the next round. They have been going great guns this season scoring freely but I'm hoping class will tell when we play them

so most of the replays were last night with Jersey bulls bowing out 1-0 but Spalding winning 3-2 at shepshed to go through but have been handed a tough away trip to Stratford town (Southern premier)

so Jimbo can go and watch lincoln Utd drawn at home to Kidsgrove , Sherwood colliery are rewarded for putting the ginger breads out with a home tie against Worcester City

In the Northeast Bishop auckland and west Auckland have been drawn against each other ( I wouldn't be surprised if over 1000 turn up to watch)

Former lkeague club Workington are at home to Prestwich heys and Gainsborough trinity (another former league club from the early days of the footbal league) are at home to Matlock town who feature ex lincoln city and stamford goalscorer Jonathon Margetts and Telford united are at home to Coalville

Grimsby borough who defeated Melton town are rewarded with a very tough away trip to Leek

Stafford rangers (veterans of FA Trophy wembley finals) are at home to Atherstone from just down the road. With former Vase finalists Guisborough at home to Atherton Colliery and the Poppies another team that have played at Wembley in the Trophy final are away at Hullbridge sports

Lowestoft who beat Corby have another away tie at canvey island with FC Romania at home to Needhan Market

Down on the South Coast Sussex has a choice of (assuming Brighton aren't at home that day) Eastbourne at home to Epsom and Ewell, Lancing at home to carshalton with Lewes away at faversham

Little Mousehole form the west of Cornwall have a home tie against Bashley and Swindon Supamarine play Cribbs (who are named after a street in Bristol)
