A driver friend of mine has tried to register twice in the last 2 days but it seems he's not acceptable because both times he's not been allowed.

Any reason why?

I believe the name he used was pl1driver and the mail address was pl1@web-forums.co.uk which isn't any of the usual bot style addys.

Is his name Terry? I think there's a general red alert when that name enters the domain. :D

Maybe "*Web" is banned in the forums email domains.
Has your friend tried his ISP's email domain to register?

The addy seems to be in the same category as hotmail etc. I'm not surprised it's being rejected.

Why doesn't he just send an e-mail to info@taxi-driver.co.uk and tell the admin that?

I think those behind the site do a good job keeping the porn and sh** off this site, well maybe not the sh**, thus they take extra care when allowing folks into the gang.

I actually own the domain web-forums.co.uk and it certainly aint porn or spam.

I provided him with the mail address so he could register because he normally only uses a gmail and hotmail address.

Not to worry, guess he's sh!t out then eh.

The object of disallowing third party email addresses is to keep a degree of control over the continuity of the forum. One of the few alternatives to that policy would be if the person wishing to join the forum was known to the administration and that a valid reason was given for registering with an email address that did not conform to TDO general policy. In this particular case it would appear that the gentleman is not known and therefore his email address has been rejected.

At the end of the day the administration will decide on the merits of each individual application and to that respect your friend needs to contact Alex at info@taxi-driver.co.uk and persuade him as to why he should be made an exception.

Post subject:  I was unsavoury too..

... I tried to use a 'hotmail' account because I produce a taxi driving podcast and I was hoping to stay a bit undercover-like (not [edited by admin] off my employer basically  ) - but the forum wouldn't accept that. So I'm re-registered with my regular email address and got in...

I do understand the no Hotmail approach..
