Rossendale - a national disgrace and Flag of Convenience

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/ ... ing-397214

Dear Mr R*****

Freedom of Information Request – FOI/2115

With reference to your request dated 30^th May 2013, the Council’s response is below:-

Rossendale Borough Council has 4 private hire operators licensed in Rossendale. 4 private hire vehicles licensed by residents of Rossendale and 1 licensed by an accident replacement company who are based in Hampshire and 8 private hire drivers, 7 of which live in Rossendale with the 8th living in Ramsbottom.

However, this does not cover individual drivers and therefore you may also be interested in information from a recently answered freedom of information request, which deals with the matter of where drivers live (not where they work):-

This information denotes where a driver lives, not where a driver works and is based upon a recent manual count of the files.

Of course the Law Commission will sort this mess out!

If it can't be sorted out now, then the Law Commission will make it legal under the new legislation.

Sorted! Job done!

It's consistent policy - if it cant be sorted....legalise.

I understand that it may be consistent policy but that wasn't my query, I'm not sure what the relevance is between where they live and where they work :?

I think it's pretty relevant that one driver appears to have 526 mile round trip to earn a crust in Rossendale.

It's one thing to live in the next LA area or the next but one even. Quite another to live at the other end of the world!

Because the chances are - where they are licensed isn't where they work.

They are getting a license in Rossendale - and working in manchester

Or they are licensed in Rossendale and are working as Reps or something all round the country, using bus lanes wherever PH is allowed in them. But they are not working as PH Drivers.

I see your point, but, our authority require that we tell them which operator we work for and file our license with said operator. Is this not the norm around the country?

I think Rossendale answered the PH question with a HC answer

You may well have a point there, a chap said to me today 'the first thing civil servants do when they get to work is try to figure out how not to spend any money', I guess sitting around on their elbows is a good start
