Easy Cars Plymouth was an idea formulated four years ago by husband and wife Darren and Sandra Burton, and their sons Taylor Burton and Ben Wildman.

With years of experience in the private hire trade between them, they decided that there was a gap in the local market for a company that exudes traditional values.

By June 2020, just as the country relaxed its lockdown rules, Easy Cars was ready to go. Car stickers, business cards and flyers were printed, and a dispatch system was quickly put in place.

Easy Cars managing director Ben Wildman said: "At the very beginning, we were set up in a spare room at my parents’ house and we only had one driver.

"Despite a heavy social media push and hours spent posting flyers, the phone only rang once on the first night."

From a nerve-racking start, the family-run business has seen itself grow into a fully-fledged company operating at the heart of Britain’s Ocean City.

Ben added: "With zero financial backing, every decision we make is subject to careful consideration and almost every penny we earn goes back into the company for upgrading equipment, improving facilities and advertising.

"Darren and Sandra’s experience in the industry led them to believe that quality customer service was always lacking in many other businesses, and this is something we pride ourselves on, since our inception.

"As mentioned with the finance side of things, our advertising budget has been very limited, and we therefore relied on word of mouth and online reviews to get the news out about our customer service."

Certainly, those reviews stand testament to Easy Cars’ ethos, with a near-perfect Google Reviews score of 4.9*. Its growing reputation has continued to attract new drivers as well as secure important contracts, further solidifying the business' position as an established member of Plymouth’s private hire trade.

Another thing that sets Easy Cars apart is that it has continued to allow pre-bookings on weekends as opposed to some companies who have opted against the decision.

Ben commented: "Public safety is of paramount importance to us. Despite being self-employed, our drivers work with us to inform us of their working patterns so that we can, in turn, take as many pre-bookings as possible.

"This really does give peace of mind, especially for those who have had important plans previously derailed by taxi availability."

As the company moves forward, the family have no intention of taking their foot off the gas, now operating out of the prestigious Millfields estate.

Sandra Burton, director of Easy Cars, said: "What drives us is the belief that we are not only offering what we think to be a superior service for the public, but another viable option for drivers seeking a change.

"Easy Cars is like a family, one that is ever-growing, so do give us a try."
