But are they protected?

At the end of the day, all the work comes via the airport, all the customers are airport customers, and the airport takes a % of each job.

Maybe it's arguable that the contract is indirectly with the airport, and they are using a sham agreement to bypass employment laws.

I think you can say with some certainty that although Gatwick is the source of the work they are not a PH firm and therefore not liable for any of the contracted PH firms liabilities

In terms of licensing I agree.

But we are talking about employment laws.

And I suspect that could be argued at the Tribunal.

The issue with Uber and AL wasn’t licensing law it was employment law.

Looks like it's all kicking off again. Mostly about the traffic congestion, so no point reading the whole article. But spot the clanger in the first paragraph. Since it's all about employment status, it's maybe not too anoraky to point out that Airport Cars isn't an 'employer', because the drivers are currently self-employed and/or have 'worker' status :-o

But pretty sure they're not employees with an employer :-o

(And let's ignore the t-word below, and the rogue apostrophe - it's "taxis", not "taxi's" [-( )

A Gatwick Airport taxi demonstration is causing traffic chaos for holidaymakers today (October 25) as dozens of taxi's are driving slowly around the airport in protest of the way employers treat them. The demonstration, which began about an hour ago at 7.00am, is thought to be causing chaos, with the M23 and the A23 Airport Way being affected.
