Moray woman (26) slapped taxi driver and spat at policeman

A WOMAN has admitted assault and threatening behaviour after slapping a taxi driver and spitting at a police officer.

Danielle Thomson (26), of High Street, Aberlour, was with another woman when they warned an Elgin taxi driver that they felt sick in his vehicle.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that the taxi driver cautioned a cleaning fine would be imposed on them if they threw up, which promoted Thomson to hit the driver repeatedly on the back of the head.

Fiscal depute Robert Weir said the taxi, which was due to take the pair from Priory Place to Bremner Drive on March 26, 2022, then made its way to the local police station instead.

However when it reached the station, Thomson and her pal ran off. Mr Weir said Thomson was traced later to the address in Bremner Drive and was arrested.

"But as handcuffs were being applied, she made threats to spit on police and did so twice, but it was caught in a spit hood which had been applied," Mr Weir said.

Thomson later claimed she only "tapped" the driver on the head.

She appeared from custody by video link and admitted assault and threatening behaviour.

As she was on a community payback order and under social work supervision, Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald was obliged to defer sentence until July 15 for a background report. But Thomson was again remanded.
