HEADLINE: Extra taxi fare idea dropped

Cotswold District Council has decided to abandon proposals for charges on prams and shopping carried in taxis.

Officers recommended a 30p payment for each cycle, pushchair and pram.

Shoppers could also have been hit with the same charge for each parcel carried in the cab's boot. CDC decided to oppose the idea at a licensing meeting, because it was impractical.

Coun David Broad (C, Chedworth) said: "I don't think it would work.

"I don't know how you would be able to decide what would and wouldn't constitute packaging. Is five shopping bags five packages? It just isn't clear."
