HEADLINE: CRIMINAL CHECKS ON TAXI FIRMS

PRIVATE hire taxi bosses will be forced to declare criminal convictions in a "clean-up" of the industry.

The Scottish Executive is set to give councils powers to license taxi firms' radio offices.

And the boss of each company will be subject to criminal records checks.

It is hoped the scheme will chase the crime gangs behind some taxi firms out of the business.

Notorious Glasgow crime family the McGoverns have links to Network Private Hire, while Glasgow Private Hire is linked to controversial businessman Stevie Malcolm.

And last June the home of Stephen Conley, boss of the city's Hampden Private Hire, was shot at.

A spokeswoman for Transport Minister Tavish Scott said: "Following a public consultation, we will be making an announcement on the licensing of taxi offices."

The radio ops will become the new owners, these firms will all have new owners by the end of the month.

Noticed a wee article in yesterdays Scottish Sunday Mail.

After his exposure as the owner of a swingers sex club in last weeks paper, David Coutts of Edinburgh's Festival Private Hire had "quit" as boss of his "cab" firm.

Mmmmm wonder who's running it now - maybe one his relatives, or his business partner the licensed sex shop owner, or maybe his former business partner the councillor and PHC owner, or maybe the part time driver, part time councillor and former chair of the licensing regulatory committee

Bring on the licensing - for all the good it will do

Where's JT with his cries of corrupt council when you need him

Nothing will change reagarding the ownership, like you and me have said they'll just put it into one of the drivers or radio ops name.

Not that up on the rules and regs of such clubs i.e. whether they are legal or not, but I can't see why he should have to resign if they are legal.

Or are we all a bunch of monks and nuns on here?

just for the record Coutts was never the owner of any PH company in edinburgh but you know that TC so why post lies about what was not said in the paper

Strange that back in March 2006 (not that interested to have checked more recently) David Martin Coutts and Jelena Coutts were both listed at companies house as company secretary and director respectively and were the only two appointments listed at that time for Festival City Cabs Ltd - so do you wish to retract your statement above

Well you could be a director and/or secretary without having an interest in the company's ownership. ie shares.

The semantics you will bring up in order to try and put me down is pathetic and only serves to show you in your true light.

Now if you want to get down to facts: if you check what I had posted you will see I never claimed that Mr Coutts owned Festival - chopper was the person bringing up ownership.

Whilst what you say is factually correct, the fact that the registered office is also the home address of the two individuals concerned would possibly indicate otherwise - draw your own conclusions

It wasn't about semantics TC - the fact is that you cited evidence as to ownership which was next to useless, and the registered office address is hardly conclusive either.

If you say that you never claimed that Mr Coutts owned Festival then why did you cite the info about the directorship and secretaryship and accused Chipper of lying when his only substantive claim (as far as I can see) was that Mr Coutts didn't OWN the company.

I know nothing about the company don't doubt that what you say is correct, but all I was trying to point out is that the matters that you cited tell us little about who owns the company and that's down to who owns the shares.
