I apologise if this has been discussed elsewhere ................... but I'm gonna ask again.

Gateshead are considering introducing an age policy for vehicles.

What is the age policy in your area ??????????????

Particularly if your area has three tests per year for older vehicles.

Under 3 years old upon first licensing as a Hackney Carriage, 5 on subsequent (save exceptional circumstances)


Carlisle HC Policy WAV;

No age restriction

Carlisle PH Policy;

No older than 8 years

All vehicles must pass a stringent, mechanical inspection every six months until five years old, then every four months thereafter.

London no age limit,2 MOTs 1 PCO test per year.of course it had to be negotiated and were effing useless,so you will do better HA HA

I think as long as the vehcile passes the test there is no need for an age limit.

Welcome back Rambo the voice of reason,you wont be suprised to know the proprietors wanted an age limit so did the PCO we didnt and you dont have one,I know were useless!!!!!!!!

Flagging trade union membership in the UK could be revived with the TUC targeting new recruits among Eastern European workers.

The union group took part in one of Europe's largest job fairs in Warsaw, Poland, last week, visited by an estimated 10,000 Polish jobseekers.

Wanda Wyporska, a TUC representative, said: "Hundreds of people were asking how to become union members and expressing an interest in signing up before coming to the UK."

The interest generated will come as a relief to unions after a dramatic decline in membership over the past 30 years. Less than one-third of UK workers are union members today, compared with two-thirds of the workforce in the 1970s, according to government figures.

An estimated 600,000 workers from Eastern Europe have come to the UK since eight former eastern bloc states joined the EU in 2004. Thousands more are expected when Bulgaria and Romania join the EU in January 2007.

About 30 major UK employers attended the Polish event, including Tesco, transport company First Group and Macdonald Hotels & Resorts.

Former GMB political officer awarded £41,000 for constructive dismissal

A former trade union political officer has received almost £41,000 in compensation after a tribunal ruled she was constructively dismissed.

An employment tribunal in Newcastle found the GMB union guilty of the offence against Jane Brown following a hearing in June. A remedies hearing awarded Brown a payout of £40,883.

Brown joined the GMB in June 1998, but was moved to another position in 2003 after an internal restructure. Brown said she had told her employers that she was unhappy with her new position.

She went on sick leave and eventually resigned, claiming the union failed to resolve her grievance properly.

The tribunal found the GMB was unreasonably unwilling to relax procedures and it failed to follow the grievance procedure, amounting to constructive dismissal.

The GMB said it would be appealing against both the tribunal's original ruling, and the compensation order.


Any idea about the outcome of this one?

As long as it passed the test, then yes.
Bloody good cars cortina's, brings back memories of when I first passed my test and getting in the back with my girlfriend.............. :wink:

Proposals in Gateshead are -

All HC to be no more than 2 years old when first licensed.
All PH to be no more than 3 years old when first licensed.

All licensed vehicles to lose licence when 5 years old unless they are in exeptional condition.


Currently all vehicles are tested in the councils testing station twice per year.


Consultation continues.
