A lot of experts are saying that support for Scottish independence is on the rise since Brexit. I think she knows that if she holds referendum now she will get a majority and is hoping that Westminster will concede and she can pull out of the UK and hand Scotlands' soul to the EU

There is an unshakeable belief in Scotland that booting out the English will make them a rich nation

So about time we closed our airbases and navy bases and moved the jobs back to England and after all the Scottish fishing industry will flourish sharing their waters with the French, Dutch and Spanish.

A hard border between the two adding hours onto check in and customs formalities on trains, planes and long distance coaches is a small price to pay for reducing all those pesky English tourists

As for the oil, well electric cars are taking over and we won't need it soon and I'm sure we can replace Scotch whisky with American Bourbon

Yes Scottish business will thrive by excluding themselves from their biggest market by adopting EU export rules

Think it's back to where it was when the Scots had their 'once in a generation' vote in 2014.

Supposing there was a referendum and Scotland decided to leave the union.

And then the border counties said they want to remain in the Union, and the Shetland isles too.

Could it happen? Yes it could, because it’s happened before, in Ireland.

All those Scots working in England and Wales could find themselves out of work as they will be illegal immigrants and be repatriated to Scotland. The rules will be the same for them as any other European person (work permit, time limited) There is a lot more to consider by the Scots than what is being disclosed at the present time.

Indeed, and by some happy coincidence there was an article on that very subject in yesterday's Sunday Telegraph by the esteemed academic Vernon Bogdanor. Unfortunately it's paywalled, but there certainly has been some periodic chatter about that kind of thing up here, together with the not unrelated topic of political violence.

Ulsterisation and Balkanisation are some of the terms that have been used in Scottish politics over the last few years :-o

Could an independent Scotland remain unified?

If Scotland votes for independence, some disaffected Unionists may want to break away

Indeed, there would be difficult questions of citizenship and nationality to consider, but I couldn't see it coming to Scots workers in England being repatriated. Suspect they'd automatically become citizens of rUK and vice versa with the English working up here, or the process would be made very easy. In fact I'm quite sure that was what was proposed in the SNP's independence white paper in 2014, although I never really paid too much attention :-s

There was this in the Spectator a few days ago, but to be honest I couldn't summon up the effort to read it, although it did look vaguely interesting [-(

Independence would spark a citizenship crisis in Scotland — and the UK

Yes, and one factor is possibly that Brexit is largely forgotten about, and of course something else became the main issue.

And SNP certainly hoped that Brexit would help them, and maybe it did to a degree, but I suspect the Brexit bounce for the SNP has dissipated by now.

But just to underline what the SNP said about indyref being a once in a generation event back in 2014, a very short video:

And getting back to the mandate and SNP bollocks, an interesting comparison from Andrew Neil - he likens Sturgeon to Arthur Daley and the car salesman's 'bait-and-switch' - use a cheap car to entice people in, then try to sell them something else.

ANDREW NEIL: Nicola Sturgeon's canny switch would have made Arthur Daley proud
