I had an email from the Council today to remind me that my group 2 medical is due by November. No problem there, or is there?
There is this little nugget regarding getting the medical done at my own GP.

Latham House patients only

Latham House have asked that you provide:

An eye acuity test carried out within the past 4 months at the time of your medical examination. If you wear glasses this has to be carried out both with and without wearing their glasses at an opticians and post a copy of the opticians report in an envelope to the surgery. This must be received by the Doctor at least 48 hours prior to your phone appointment. If you wish to post this yourself they have a surgery post box on Sage Cross Street. Please check if you are eligible for a free eye test by following the link below: https://www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/help-w ... -vouchers/

Height/weight: The doctor will also require you to provide your height and weight measurements over the phone, during your consultation so please have these to hand.

Recent BP reading: If you haven’t got this and Latham House are unable to assist with this, please contact the licensing team and we will aim to assist you where possible.

Payment to the surgery for the medical certificate will be required to be made over the phone prior to the appointment.

Please return completed medical forms to the Council Offices for the attention of licensing.

I thought that the medical had to be face to face and not me just giving any old information to my GP and also on page 18 of the form it states that I have to fill in the details and sign the form in the presense of the GP. I also have to provide my blood sugar readings on a device that records them for at least 3 months. That should be easy then, I can just say any old tosh.

All our medicals are face-to-face, either with your GP or the council's nominated doctor.

The new eye test procedure is an issue that even our council is requesting, although they have since backtracked a little and have allowed your GP to undertake the test, as they have done for the last 100 years or so.

Getting a real-life eye checker to check your eyes rather than your GP i.e. Specsavers or Boots.

Your GP will charge for any form of driving licence-related medical. I have to have an annual medical to keep my PSV licence. I use a private doctor in Ashford who charges £60 (cash only, no cards). PSV eye tests area a bit stricter than normal car licence so I get that done in the local Specsavers in Tesco.

With lengthy delays at the DVLA last year my PSV renewal took 11 moths to come back to me, meaning no medical this year as that is based on the date the new licence is issued. I applied for thee renewal in February 2024, got the licence in late January 2025!

It seems councils make up their own rules on everything, it would make everything simpler to follow a national set of standards.
