This has been my income so far this year driving a Hackney carriage in Milton keynes City.
4th £73.60
5th £87.50
6th £29.00
7th £42.10
8th £39.00
9th £21.20
10th £24.90
11th £59.30
12th £51.50
13th £52.20
14th £37.40.
So many cabs running after so little work.
The shopping centre is always busy but 90% of people bring own cars. Use bus or walk the 10% use Taxis.
It was soo much better before with limited Taxis we was making a good living now theres just too many cabs.

In this climate I would say 90% of volume is done by firms that compete on fares, as ppl that don't have cars will choose a fixed fare over a meter. January is slow, so see what it's like in Feb/Mar. Good luck! IMHO it is

Aylesbury Vale is a town 20miles from here they are limited and doing well for themselves well better than us in Milton keynes.
If we was still limited it wouldnt be like this.

I'm not sure there is an area in the country that is better than pre 2008.

However if you want less cabs then encourage people to leave the trade, and, as I said previously, get all the plate holders to agree to a cull of vehicles.

Of course you will then still have the hackneys from the other areas still taking local work, and the increase in local PH taking the local work.

This recession has effected many large retailers and businesses, why does anyone think it wont effect the taxi trade?

Mr Sussex and his chums at the LC wish this upon the rest of us. Even when they are presented with the evidence they will deny it and still favour the free for all approach.

Those figures will go down as the month goes on, January is traditionally the quietest month, as folk start to recuperate after the festive period, then they are hit by the utility bills.
My best tip was on Saturday, apart from a £120 fare to Newcastle airport, I received a 40 ounce bottle of absolute vodka and an envelope containing £130, my Christmas box from a very satisfied customer who has used me for the last 4 years :D :D

Where quiet aswell since new years works still is ticking but weekends nothing much but yh i know where better than MK cab drivers,
I know a few who are working 14-16hour shifts and taking home £50.
I can do £50 in 4-5hours here but not busy like it used to be.

I sit on the ranks and train stations and work on a radio skyline taxis alongside 200 other hackenys and private hires.

Ranks you average wait 1-2hours for local £5 fare.
Station average 2hours+ for £10+ fare sometime can even wait there for 2hours+ and get a local £5 fare.
Radio lucky to get 1 local £3 fare in 2hours.

What are YOU doing to try and increase YOUR takings?
