Mick is right about his site wanting to know who is who. BTW Mick I signed in under my own name. My complaint was about censorship and vetting posts from a known name. I think there is a world of differrence between the known and unknown (guest). The known can be answerable for a post. And so they should be. Also the KNOWN should not be banned. This may lead them to adopt other names or sign in as a guest.

All this is a bit different to signing in as guest. There could be many guests.

Take me on this post for instance I have been a guest at The Coach and Horses in Bramblehurst. No bugger new who I was.

All this anonymity can be a dangerous game when people are not accountable for their actions.

How can you put an invisible man in the dock?

Prosecution: "Is that the man"
Witness: "Dunno I can't see him"

“The game is only beginning. There is nothing for it, but to start the Terror. This announces the first day of the Terror. Port Burdock is no longer under the Queen tell your Colonel of Police, and the rest of them; it is under me—the Terror! This is day one of year one of the new epoch—the Epoch of the Invisible Man. I am Invisible Man the First.”

I've just thought of something. People may think Griffin is that Addison Lee Bloke.

Not so, Griffin was the Invisible Man. His real name is hardly mentioned in th novel. He is reffered to as "The Stranger" and latterly "The Invisible Man."

See the problem! QED

Err, yes, I agree, I think :?

There's nothing wrong with anonymity in my book, so that's why the ethos of this site was to not require registration to be able to read the posts or post messages.

Of course, there could be a registration process with anonymity, but even registration puts some people off.

The bottom line is that only a miniscule proportion of the trade contribute to forums like this, thus in my opinion everything should be done to encourage contributions, so registration was made optional on here.

Here! Here! Says Andy (Who wishes to remain anonymous).

(Andy sits back and thinks: Would his posts be different if he were anonymous?)

(Nope, probably not, he thinks to himself. So why is that? He continues to ponder).

If people are more concerned about the author of a post, rather than the content, well more fool them.

The author and the writings are one and the same-
Thomas Paine, Percy Bysshe Shelly, Galileo, Noam Chomsky and others. No sniping cowards these! These ideas were the man. These words were the man.

We need the hanger of an author to hang our yeas of nays on.

All you’re advocating is snipers taking a shot from cover.

One of the very few reasons for anonymity is a whistle blower.
