From the fanny forum guru Travis Bickle

City/CRT have done a deal to provide cabs for the highland show I hear.
They will have marshals to ensure it's only their cabs allowed to pick up.

I had heard that colky had promised it to the private hire "As a done deal"

Not great for comcabs/streetcars but thankfully no colky private hire.

Travis

City and Central, under pressure from ECPH appear to be venting their spleen by attempting to Lord it over the rest of the hackney trade.

They appear to have convinced the Royal Highland Show to grant them exclusivity and selling the public as a commodity.

The RHS has been duped into stirring up a real hornets nest.

The result of this will be a taxi war which will last long after the show is a distant memory.

The publicity is going to cause the RHS serious commercial harm. It will do the same for City and Central. By the time the dust settles all of the participants in this illegal agreement are going to look like shysters.

Watch this space.

 :)

A big birdy advises me that Travis Bickle is a liar.

COOLKY has never been anywhere near the RHS. He has never spoken to them about servicing the showground. It is a "bare faced lie". It's a red herring.

"They are just using this lie as a means to feck the rest of the trade".

City and Central committees are out on a limb.

Word is that the re8ults of the two companies brave bid is that City and Central taxis are gonna become invisible to a large section of the trade.

First to a job gets it.

The trade war looms.

The council's slavish protection of these scumbag companies vested interest may just be the cause of the trade war.

Looks like plod is gonna be run off his size nines.

Enough is enough,

During the period of the Highland Show, I will be making a point of overtaking ANY crt or city motor in ANY location. If I then get flagged down then I will pick up.

I would urge any other comcab or street car driver to do the same.

If they cannot show us some respect, why should we show them any?

The public should not be traded like a commodity, their choice denied them.

The Watford ruling about cabbies rights being breached by permit systems also applies here.

If the RHS do set up a separate holding area for taxis then it too has a public access right. You can't pick and choose qhich public licensed vehicles can have access to it.

The Showground is in our licensing area. We have a right to pick up.

City and Central are making their companies pariahs in this trade. Which will last long after the show.

So be it.

The publicity alone will damage them.

BTW

This is the precisely the kind of action that will support a referral to the monopolies commission.

Word is we don't even have to wait for any merger. That they are abusing their joint power to influence the market in this way is sufficient to make the representations now.

It is the council's maintenance of their vested interest, its protection of the blackmarket in plates, that has afforded them this inordinate degree of power.

That was my thoughts.

Exactly how can anyone stop you picking up? :?

Quite simply because they secret away the pickup zone into an area they control. Then they enlist the aid of the cops to marshal the streets and deny us the right to pick up on the pretext of public safety.

Basically the cops act as marshals for a private company. This is what also happens at the airport. Taxpayer's money is spent on their rights being denied by what is becoming the police state.

The cops will quite happily breach our rights, they'll do it in a heartbeat.

Of course, having breached those rights, when someone is attacked or assaulted, as I believe happened last year, then the first guys they come to for help is the taxi trade.

You couldn't make this up. Cops and the trade no longer work to a common purpose. They [edited by admin] on us, we're supposed to touch our forelocks to them.

It could be so different. But it will take a real move from the cops by stopping rousting us in the streets, stopping us with customers on board and reporting us for trivial and irrelevant misdemeanours thereby putting us through the ignominy of the council's kangaroo court.

In short, the system is designed to put us in our place, and our place is at the bottom of the pile.

This latest ruse by the scumbag companies is just them muscling in to tread down on us again. The council's protection of this vcested interest, propping up the blackmarket in taxi plates, reinforces this.

From my experience of these types of events, admittedly not the one in question, is that punters will find there way to the main road as any official pick up point at the event will take ages for cabs to get in and get out.

Whereas for cab drivers it will be easier to pick up, drop off and get back again via a main road pick up point.

I used to have a regular Yearly drop off and Pick up at the Highland showground...It wasnt worth the money it paid, the Drop off was no problem..but on return try to find 8 drunken punters was a nightmare, youd find 1, then he'd dissapear to find the other 7 and then the 7 would appear then dissapear again looking for the original 1 that appeared....it cost me more in disgruntled customers because of the late running the show run cost me.

Now im well out of it and quite happy not to take runs to and from the place...blisssssssssss!!!

Sure.

But I think the real issue here is the arrogance of City and Central.
Last night V28 disengaged on the Mood rank, held the position on the rank in front of others who had pulled on behind him, then picked up.

V28 is either new to the trade , doesn't understand rank rules or is just arrogant and stupid.

However, for his little action he's now accorded the helmet of Perseus.

Quality.

I suppose it was a great bit of business for the show's folks when selling the taxi franchise.

Tell the buffoons at the cab firms that PH are in the frame, and wo and behold the tenders go up.

Laughing all the way to the bank. ](*,)
