I worked, probably like a lot of drivers on here, during the last economic recession during 1992-4.

I don't see half the amount of slow down that occured last time.
Without sounding too smug I was so busy Sat / Sun nights, I've taken today off, even though I know it will be a good day in town today.

The main difference this time round is the price of Oil.
But, in terms of a full blown recession I think we are worrying far too much over what the media (and they're endless quest to shock us into watching this never ending News feed that rules the screens) says.

Prices have risen, but i don't see any shortage of people flying off on Holiday, smoking or drinking less, or buying ready prepared food from the shops.

I was up in Dunfermline last week, and the pubs were rammed out with people on Thursday night, I did'nt see many folks worrying in there, and my home town is hardly the richest place in Britain.

Mind you, it's going to be an extension of Edinburgh soon.

I have to wonder how much more people will take..........

There is a tipping point, and TBH I thought we had passed it, but when we do pass it the government will have to act.

Not sure what they can do, or even if any of these recent massive increases are their fault, but they will have to think of something or they will be gone.

Boss of the GMB has got the hump with City speculators.

Paul Kenny Statement

Governor of Bank of England and Chancellor must stop rip-off of
taxpayers and consumers

Paul Kenny, GMB General Secretary, today responded to official figures
showing that City bonuses in the first three months of 2008 amounted
to a record £12.6 billion. He said, “There can no longer be any doubt
that the multi-millionaire elite who run the City and the financial
sector are out of control and divorced from economic realities facing
their fellow citizens.

GMB want an urgent enquiry as the whether the £50 billion bail out to
banks from the taxpayer is being used to fund these bonuses which defy
economic gravity. The Governor and the Chancellor must also look at
speculative manipulation in the oil market and the extent to which it
is driving prices up. We need to know why oil futures contacts now
amount to level of additional demand for oil from China and how this
speculation is impacting on prices.

We need the Labour Government to stand up for the taxpayer and
consumers against these elite. There should be a higher tax band for
these elite and if they don’t like it we are better off without them.
Those profiting from higher oil prices and speculators in the oil
market must face a windfall tax which can be used to reduce fuel taxes
at the forecourt.

The Tories will not follow the Government on this since the elite are
their mates. They have just appointed Tim Parker, the private equity
buccaneer, who took out £30m from AA as he saddled it with £4.8
billion of debt as number two to the Mayor of London".

Sussex, When Labour came to power it inherited a financially sound and booming economy. Overseas borrowing had been reduced; if you would like to check the figures of what this country owed when Labour got back in, and how much the country owes now, it might give you an idea of what chance you have in seeing any sort of reduction.

What is it you don't understand, you t***?

We, and even you Mr. T, are of no significance to the people in power in this country and it doesn't matter who's in power.

DEMOCRACY, in this country is nothing more than a word - you vote one lot out and vote more in of the same in - SNAFU.

Systems don't care.

Individuals within the system might care, but the system as an entity most certainly does not . The "Democratic" system in this country lacks the mechanism to make politicians responsible and accountable to the people - they do what the feck they like - the democratic deficit is a 5 year mandate with no strings attached.

You've got a long way to go before you'll be classed as one of the elite Mr T.

Please don't anyone think I'm a fan of New Labour. [-X

I think anyone who has power for 10+ years tends to lose the plot and assume invincibility. [-(
